Booked the XX in for its 6k'er today for next week and almost died when they
quoted the price - almost double what I was told when I was buying the
beast. This is closer to 1/2 the service cost of the Duck, not 1/4 as I was
led to believe (at Sydney City M'c in Lane Cove)!

I know I can get the same thing done at Rock's in Port Macquarie by world
class mechanics (they have won some pretty prestigious awards) for around
$190 + parts, so that could be justification enough for a Thunderbolts +
    Oxley run and back.... :)

Failing that, who should I go to in Sydney? Has anyone had any experience
with Greg's new workshop at MAW in Castle Hill? He's a great guy, his shop
is top notch and I'd be very keen to give him the business so would love to
hear any comments about his mechanics.

    Cheese,

    Hey Dave

Take it to BMS in Beaconsfield. They are a Honda dealer (albeit rather
small, and DON'T let the *dealer* part of it put you off). They focus and
survive on servicing bikes. I get all my stuff done there and the best part
is it's cheap! 6k service shouldn't involve too much. Oil, oil filter,
check stuff, but not much replacement. I think Honda's are good for 20
thousand kays before shims need checking, and the thing is fuel injected,
so there goes the stuffing around with adjusting mixtures. Give them a call
and get a quite if you like, but you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    Full details are

Beaconsfield Motorcycle Supermarket (Authorised Hond franchise)
    376 Botany road
    Beaconsfield 2015
    ph: 9318 0008

And just to help out, it's pretty close to Green Square station, or you can
catch a bus straight into town as well. Always handy.

I've only had my tyres done there, but I got a good job done at a good
price, and they picked my (punctured) bike up for a minimal cost.

For comparison purposes a regular service (and 6K is very regular) on the XX
at Redwing Honda in Melbourne is generally in the region of $200 (Labour $140,
oil $43, filter $20) double the labour for a 24K service, plus plugs, air
cleaner, pads seem to last about 24K per set too.

Speaking of brake pads, the lower edge of the front left pad wears fastest, so
to determine when they need changing check that out. The front right and rear
pads might still have a bit of meat left when the front left is almost metal
    on metal.

Yep, that's what I would pay if I got them to do my oil and filter etc as
well, but I do that myself. I get my 6k services for about $120 or so
(never any more) and includes spark plugs and the other usual bits n
pieces. If they don't put in new spark plugs last time I think I got it
    down to $90!

  10. And as a further comparo I've just had the 12,000kms service done on
my ZRX1200 and all up including parts & labour it was $224 and a week
    later my wife's ER5 had it's 12,000kms service done plus a puncture
repar and that came to $226. Both were done at Race Replica on the Old
    Geelong Rd, Brooklyn in Melbourne.

    Kind regards

    call

    Hi Cam,

Well, I did call them and immediately I felt like they wanted to look after
me - unlike many who make you feel like you're putting them out just by
    calling. They've quoted me $120 + parts, so they'll save me about $260 +
difference in parts cost with Syd. City. Bloody hell - I'm impressed.

Perhaps a few beers one day, yes? My shout!

    Cheers and thanks a lot,

I believe that's the standard cost of oil which doesn't get on your hands or
    your clothes.

The ZX6R uses close to 4L at about $60 (full price) or $40 (on sale).

Crikey, Corks, that means that you're paying about 10c per km for servicing,
about 10c for fuel, and about the same for tyres, and depending on the kms
you do in a year you could be paying the same for rego, CTP and insurance.
Add in depreciation and you're looking at a huge cost!

I'll give you ten-fifty, a kick in each nut and a poke in the eye.
    (plus GST)

Hmmm, TDM850. Now there's an ugly bike. Kind of grown on me, though.
