Nope, realised just as I wanted to head off. Was only 100 yards away from
Hunts Motorcycles, who drained the tank and filled it with a few litres of
the proper fuel. I did take care topping it up this time.....

Well, the handle-top part was off in my defense, your Honour. On a serious
note: this is a known problem then, that nobody is taking care off?
Adie/Darsy: can I borrow your solicitor when you're done?
My tyres are seriously square and I think the front is way, way, way beyond
the legal limit. My garage wants 200 quid for a pair of Macadams, which IMO
    is a bit rich....

  4. It's all to do with being a common rail HP diesel. I'm told by someone
who knows that if you drain the tank ASAP pump through the fuel lines
change the filter and bleed the common rail absolutely no harm will come
of the incident. Non of the materials used would be effected by petrol
short term that tolerates diesel. The manufacturers of Bosch HP common
rail engines don't know what will happen so they er on the side of
caution and at the expense of someone else.

Well, at least when you're filling up and have taken the wrong
How much to fill up with a tank of diesel these days?

  6. Old diesels are more tolerant. The new high pressure common rail
electrically controlled diesel injection do not work well if you change
the viscosity of the fuel. 50/50 petrol diesel will have one smoking
like mad and a bastard to start. Use your new BMW[1] in very cold
conditions without anti waxing in the fuel and it stops working before a
normal diesel does. Same reason viscosity.

[1] One of the major problems with Bosch HDi injection systems. There
are a load of pluses as well.

  7. The new injector thingies prefer 5% heating oil in with the diesel to
stop waxing. C&E don't like it though.

  8. I think my learned gentleman is referring to electronic injectors for
    diesels.

About a penny a litre more than petrol so assuming 20l at 79p/litre
    that's about 15.80.

Oh, and then the cost of having the tank drained- say, 10 quid and then
    refilled with 20l at 78p/l, say, 15.60.

In all I'd say a 20l tank of diesel cost about 41 quid...

Pah, poxy 20 litre tanks. Real men only need 16 litres (incl reserve)

The whole adventure cost me about 30 quid, but that's including the 5 quid I
gave extra to the Mechanic to get himself a pint.

If you are seriously considering Macadams then you are even thicker
than evidenced by dieseling your bike. Macadams may last you a while,
but they offer little in the way of grip on a dry day, and as for wet
    roads - forget it!

020s or Avons mate - they're the way to go.

How'd you drain it? Stick the rear wheel in an engine hoist and turn it
upside down? You could remove the cobwebs at the same time then.

This was merely an example of them overcharging. I mean, I'm thick, but do
you really think I want Macadams on my beauty? NO!!!!

    Yellow tyres OTOH......

You poor cunts up north really do get it tough. Things like tyres are
dirt cheap down this end of the country, and our women are prettier and
    filthier minded.

  17. No him personally, his fault.
His mistake was when realising 1/2 a mile or so down the road calling
the lease company's dedicated helpline & not a tame mechanic.

    Absolutely.
This would be back in the days when truck drivers used to sit in cafes,
munching bacon sarnies, waiting for their diesel to defrost.
Or do they still do that ?

Time was when frozen truck drivers would be out with blow torches warming
the fuel line on snowy days... an interesting concept but one that I am
grateful not to have experienced first hand.
