I'm looking for a road-based tyre for the Tigger, but I'm having problems finding the right size. I need a 110/80 19" tyre for the front - the back is easier: 140 or 150 17". I thought I had it cracked with Maxxis, but where they have the right front size, the matching rear is wrong - alternatively the front size only goes to 100, not 110. I'd like to try to get a pair for under £130, if poss. Anyone any useful ideas..... Apart from the usual "go die" or "you get what you pay for". -- Cheers! Fr Jack 96 Tiger. Metzeler do (did?) the Laser in the right size, but it's crossply, as were all the other makes I found in that size last time I looked. Most of the 19" fronts are aimed at the cruiser market. The BT020 is the only radial afaik, although it's been a while since I last checked.
So, err... what is the difference, from the riding POV, between radial and X-ply? -- Cheers! Fr Jack 96 Tiger. FRJACKUKRM AT GMAIL DOT COM skype: fr.jack (without the dot) Open up your eyes, just to check that you're asleep, again
Haven't the foggiest I'm afraid. I'm sure I must've used crossply tyres in the past (a long, long time ago), but I've never switched from crossply to radial on the same bike.
Fr Jack fumbled, fiddled and fingered: I've just put Continental Escapes on my F650, they seem ok so far and they're available in the sizes you mention. Mine were 120 quid a pair fitted. http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/contibike/ti escape.shtml -- Steve Parry K100RS SE & F650 and a 520i SE Touring for comfort (not forgetting the SK90PY) http://www.gwynfryn.co.uk
Fr Jack emerged from their own little world to say There was a noticeable difference when I went from cross-ply Bridgestones to radial Michelins. IANAE but I believe the sidewalls have more lateral stability meaning they squirm around less. On the road this was evident in that my Honda Dominator did not drift as much when attacking a long sweeper at full chat. Your tyres are the same size as my BMW. The most road biased tyres available are the BT020 that Krusty mentions and the Dunlop D607. These will probably cost you in the region of £170 a pair. I've just bought a set of Avon Distanzias for my trip overseas. I haven't tried them yet: I'll refit the wheels on Wed. after my exam. £160 to loose wheels. I think you will struggle to get tyres for £130 unless you opt for the off-road biased Continental TKC80s[1][2]. You could search the threads at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/ as the occasional bargain turns up. Thanks to Metzeler's [3] supply issues no-one is holding large stocks of any make of tyre in this size. Hence, unlike last year, there are no large discounts to be had. [1] there's supposed to be a road biased Conti Escape tyre. It's on their website but dealers can't seem to get stock. This may be in your price bracket if it becomes available [2] the price saving is offset by the reduced durability. [3] their Tourance tyre is probably the most popular in this size
Dunlop D607? Looks nice.. Use this to find out what tyres you can fit; http://www.roadtyres.com/tyre-motorcycle.asp and this to have a look at them; http://intobikes.co.uk/tyres
Hmm..... I wonder what tyre prices are like in .fr, .be, .de or .lu? The tyres should be just about shagged out by the monday following chimay... -- Cheers! Fr Jack 96 Tiger. FRJACKUKRM AT GMAIL DOT COM skype: fr.jack (without the dot) Open up your eyes, just to check that you're asleep, again
Where'd you get them? My local dealers either deny knowledge, or try to steer me to big money stuff. -- Cheers! Fr Jack 96 Tiger. FRJACKUKRM AT GMAIL DOT COM skype: fr.jack (without the dot) Open up your eyes, just to check that you're asleep, again

Fr Jack emerged from their own little world to say if you search that UKGSER site you will find details of some .de suppliers There is also a German Ebayer flogging tourances at discounted prices. Some of the UKGSers have bought from him

Err, not particularly cheap IME, although I have to say that since I've had the gixxer I just get them replaced by the dealer when having it serviced. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ GSX-R1000K3 `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2 `\|/` `
