The problem itself isn't that bizarre but its circumstances are funny.
Well, I laughed at the poor bastard.

A young friend of a friend [1] has had the *entire* fairing from his 1990
CBR 600 stolen. It was in Benetton colours, but now isn't. Obviously.

What are his best options, breaker prices (what are they likely to be) or
blow over a set of patterns? He's not overly keen on the streetfighter
    route.

[1] I used to repair his MZ 125 from time to time.

Can't he claim on the theft part of his insurance? Given that a full
set of fairings, even for an old bike, are expensive it may be worth
    it.

ITYF that they have not been stolen but impounded by the taste police.

You should be able to get pattern parts as they were commonly fitted to
Supersport race bikes. Just don't let him spray them back to Benetton
    colours.

    What!!

Am I on the wrong fucking planet or something? How fucking long would
they have had to have been there to nick a whole fairing?

    [of nicked CBR plastics]
Ackshirley, it was an official paint-job if memory serves; that sort of

I know that, a mate had one, see below. But if you buy pattern parts
    they will come unpainted
There was a slightly less yuck black/that green/pink version too. A mate
had one. I can't seem to track a photo down[1]. This, US version, is
close. The blue front was green/pink/black in the UK.

[1] this does not surprise me as the owners are probably too embarrased
to own up to such bad taste

The bike wasn't left in a bath of ice, by any chance?

Ah, I remember a couple of years ago there was a crew working the TT
    doing exactly the same thing

  12. Even funnier, a mate of mine once got in his SO Austin Princess one morning
to find someone had nicked the windscreen.

The worst colourschemed bike I've ever had was an Aprilia AF1 125
Replica. See http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/066101/ and yes, it was
that exact paintjob, even down to the dunlop sticker.

He thought it was beautiful. He wore shell suits as well.
