    Hi

Someone's doting wife wants to arrange a surprise holiday for husband
and not knowing where to start has asked me for advice. Hah.

    Would like:

    5-10 days
    Preferably French Alps
'Self-guided'[1] but all accommodation taken care of and pre-booked
    and that
    Including bike hire

Anyone done anything like this? Have any recommendations?

    Ta
    John

    [1] Great euphemism!

The Older Gentleman bored us all completely to death with wittery prose
    along the lines of:
    Wot 'e sed.

Not France, but just the other side of the Alps in Spain
is a chap called Phil Butler who runs Bike-Astur:

Just another one for you to check-out.

The Older Gentleman was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
I've actually looked into providing a service like this back when my
job looked really shaky, only providing it to German bikers here in
    the UK.

Given the cost involved and the fact that you can hardly ask them to
go camping, you have to ask for a hell of a lot of money just to make
a minimal profit that would be worth the while.

That, or flog it cheap and lead 50-odd bikers about...

My thoughts exactly. Which is why the idea turned out to be just about
as airworthy as a leaden duck...

Odd. Here I always thought that Spain was on the other side
    of the Pyrenne.
