I did read the page, I was agreeing with you as I never said there was
anything about fear of being sued forming policy. We've seen it before
where the police have called off a chase on safety grounds and that to
me seems sensible. Had the scrotes been injured in a chase I've no doubt
some ambulance chaser would have advised them to sue, but I don't
believe that was the coppers prime reason for not going after them,
although it could have been in the back of their minds. Pretty silly
thing to say to a member of the public though (if they did of course).

That's a bit unproductive, find out where the injuries are, then hit an
    uninjured bit.

  4. No quotation that it is their policy, but their actions or lack of
action speaks volumes. I quoted the Sun because when I quoted the
Telegraph on a previous topic I got loads of flack about 'me being
middle class', it being a Tory rag, etc., from some on the NG.

But here's their copy on it:

The statistics for accidents and fatalities during pursuit are not
normally separated from those caused during emergency response except by
individual forces for their own information. (Anecdotal evidence from a
copper in my local, plus referenced in Hansard.(1))

When they are tabulated it is usually some years later.

ie. Fatalities caused by/during UK police pursuit between 98 and 01 was
    91.

Polices complaints Authority May 2002 (1)

Serious accidents cause by police during pursuit in the Met:

    2002/3 =19
    2003/4 =13

    Questions: Hansard May 2005 (1)

This information seems to challenge your previous statement "for the
    safety of all road users".

But I'm happy to be proved wrong.

    (1) For the benefit of those (not yourself) who demand cast iron source
references to anything they don't agree with.

  5. I have lived in many places with homes in England, Germany (north &
south) and Spain, plus renting places else where Europe/South America
through work. At the moment I spend between 12 & 16 weeks a year out of
the country. I am at the moment planning to move out of England as my
permanent base. It should happen this year.
OK I take the flack when it comes from informed sources.

Give me a quote from me where *I've* said anything is a conspiracy.

If you can I will apologise to you.

  6. I have lived in many places with homes in England [nice place in 8
acres] , Germany (north & south [Black Forest, a beautiful area]) and
Spain [Alicante], plus renting places else where Europe/South America
through work. Last year I spent 16 weeks out of the country.

I am at the moment planning to move out of England as my permanent base.
This is a well thought about move.
    It should happen this year.

You yourself made the work move out of England as I have in the past. I
think many others would do that if not for kids in school etc. I
understand there are just under 200,000 people leaving Britain a year at
the moment. Because of the visa requirements and or the nature of the
work these emigrants tend to be qualified or highly skilled people
looking for a 'better life' which is only partly made up by the influx
of skilled immigrants looking for 'financial reward'.
OK I take the flack when it comes from informed sources.

Give me a quote from me where *I've* said anything is a conspiracy.

If you can I will apologise to you.

And if the plod HAD chased them and the kids (scrotes, thieves, call 'em
what you will) had fallen off and been injured/killed, would that be Ok?

I'm not convinced that car chases through residential area's and city
streets is EVER a good thing. I've got insurance, so I'd let them deal with
    the loss of the bike.

I think a "better life" and "financial reward" sort of go hand in hand. It's
not easy to have a better life if you can't feed the kids and the argument
that our people going out are highly skilled and those coming in are just in
it for the money (so obviously all unskilled) is, frankly, shite.

Well if they didn't, she's got a fucking good imagination, verging on the
perfect score. Plod don't chase non helmet wearers oop 'ere, no matter what
the time of day or night. And it's apparently because they WERE sued when a
thief came off a bike and was injured.

I've heard nothing from her, so not definitlely

I think I'm safe now though even if she does.

  11. The majority of people emigrating for work are going to Australia, New
Zealand and Canada. To retire they go to France and Spain. Those going
to Aus & ZL are going for a better life not financial reward. The
salaries are lower but the cost of living is lower and the place is a
very nice place to live in.
I didn't say that you just did! Look up there ^

The government stats reckon the mix of immigrants with skills matches
those emigrants leaving and in the medical professions to the UKs
advantage. The majority come from a lower financial structure than ours
so there is a financial advantage to come here.
The reason I said it only partly made up for those leaving is the number
of qualified immigrant is lower than emigrants.

But if you want to make the assumptions that they are all unskilled
(your words) go with it but I think that shite too.

I think the police probably worry about being accused of causing an
    accident by taking inappropriate action.

In my view they should attempt to set up a roadblock or similar but
chasing when the only possible outcomes are a crash or escape for the
person being chased is not the best course to follow. If it was my
motorbike then I'd sooner chance it being found abandoned than have it
smashed to **** because the police decided to push the pace up a bit
    in a chase.

In the event of a police car having a go at catching me when I'm on my
bike then they'd better be pretty fucking good or use other vehicles
because I'm going to give it my best shot.

  18. I got my first proper bike (rather than a clapped-out hand-me-down from
one of my brothers) bought for me by my parents..

I was starting college 30 miles away from home and it was cheaper for
them to get me a bike and for me to commute rather than pay the
train/bus fare or pay for me to live away from home.

think of saying something about envy and jealousy but decided that it
    wasn't worth it.
