I did wonder myself. Unless he's so good that he just stands on the
tee and makes his opponent do all the running.

    This:
No No No No....it's the distance that fucks up me leggies.

I am fine in short sprint situations, like Squash, chasing errant Pikeys wiv
a big stick, or running for a bus etc, but over about a mile running I get a
*lot* of pain in my knees. Probably the legacy ( Pardon the pun) of falling
of a Ski Lift while working on it years ago.

    Bike then it must be....................

I'm bored enough to have worked it out:

The standard RAF marching drill regulation is a 30 inch pace at 116
    paces a minute.

So, 290 feet per minute, 17400 feet per hour, 3.3mph.

Is it time to go home yet?

But I wouldn't have thought the RAF would consider marching as a core
competence, would they. Surely the pongos would do it faster?
For you, definitely. Off you go.

'Tis for the Rockapes. Think the RAF uses the standard pongo speed,
though some regiments have traditions of different speeds, or
    something.

Yay! It's in the garage with the Norton getting some of the fettling
    that needs doing done.

    <reality dawns> Oh. I'm still stuck in a teleconference that's been
    running 90 minutes already. <groan>

Yup. That SD and I got trained to walk up and down stairs by the
Regiment, you know. Took three days....

    There usually is.

Yes..... and very dull it is, too.

Sounds like me. I spent £350 on a bike last year and I've used it
    about twice.

Imagine what you would look like if you were WALKING (two feet on the
ground at all times) at 9mph.

At least I had the sense to borrow one[1] to not use rather than buying
    it!

[1]Leeds is a great place for borrowing bikes. They even had a special
on a few months ago - borrow one, get one.. err.. free.

**** knows what the standard is, I used to just keep up with the guys
    around me.
I know the Light Infantry has a pretty quick pace.

    <googles>

Ah yes, 140 paces per minute for quick time and 180 for double time.

Not if you're ice skating. Although in my case that usually results in
two feet off the ground & a sore arse.

That very much depends on the bike. If it's 200 quid Halfords Special
full suspension bike then you're right. If it's £3000 cross-country
race bike with full suspension you wouldn't even notice it had
suspension other than the fact you'd be going a lot quicker.
