  2. Sure it's fixed yet?

Hey, how about holding the government to the same standard as
mechanics: it's fixed or it's free...

Have you ever ridden a sidecar outfit?

If you have, you'll understand that 3 wheels = something very very
different from anything else you have ever operated.

Two minutes at the handlebars of a sidecar outfit cured me of the idea
    for life.

Of course a sidecar does also eliminate most of the advantages of a
    bike.

I quite often see cars drive down the emergency lane in peek hour,
bloody dangerous in my view especially when they come to an exit and
carry on or have to move aorund a stopped vehicle

Used to happen on the Monash Freeway all the time... One place, near Burke
Rd, the freeway is gently curving left beside a sound proofing wall, and the
visibility was so short that the cops would sit in the emergency lane and
stop anyone who was driving along in it.

That was the good old days when I believed the cops were trying to make the
road a better place, instead of a business.

Making the roads a better place by employing dangerous practices like parking
in the emergency lane? The emergency lane is for emergencies.

yeah, push bikes are crazy sometimes.

They seem to think they get right of way if they 'under take' in the verge
    (however its marked).

So there is already three cars at the traffic light. well we were there
    first.

and whats the problem ? well the road, from gutter to double yellows, is
only just wide enough for a parked car and the car driving in the lane.

How am I meant to know that theres a push bike flying up my left hand side
    ???

The push bike rider can see the road is narrow and theres a stream of
traffic which has a lot to look at - the curve ,the parked cars, the traffic
    lights..

He should just pull into the traffic stream and coast down the hill with the
cars. and take his turn at the traffic lights. If the cars give way to push
bikes, the cars wont get to move.

If the traffic is stopped at the lights, they *are* allowed to ride to
the front in most states. It's in the national road rules.

Doing it to moving traffic is not, as far as I know, legal, but if you
were in a line of traffic with parked cars and all doing say 60, would
you still be happy for the pushbike to be taking a whole lane, and not
    sharing it?

I have a problem with bikes using the emergency lane.

Its not designed to be a lane, it wasnt built to be a lane, it can have
    serious design problems,

also pedeastrians and other vehicles wont give way to traffic moving in the
    *break down* lane .
Tto say its there for emergencies is a mistake, its not there for emergency
vehicles to travel in. It as to be built so break downs and people
answering mobile phone calls have somewhere to be. .

Certainly thats fairly mad. The increased danger comes from some vehicle
ahead of him moving into the breakdown lane .. the side car means he has far
less room to avoid the encroaching vehicle.

All overtaking shall be done on the RIGHT HAND SIDE, except by the
    pushbikes.

Push pikes should be very careful to give way when entering the driving lane
while they are Under-taking (or overtaking on the left).

I have a problem with bikes using the emergency lane.
This is the crux of it. 99% of the time it will be clear, but the 1 % time
it used it will be without warning, and pity the poor motard who gets caught
in the wrong place at the wrong time.
