But if one buys a Bandit one can always spray ARSE before the logo

    Suzuki DL650 makes more power.

Fit crash bars to minimise damage when you drop it.

Lots more info about Transalps at http://www.ta-deti.de/ta/index.html

A mate has the 600cc version and has toured all over Europe on it. His main
criticism is that it is horrible over 80mph, even with an aftermarket
screen. The post 2000 650cc version might be better.

Although power is good, I think I'd trade off having the same amount
of power (or just a little more) as my ER-5 but delivered in a form
    that fits me.

The Tiger has nearly double the power and I think I could get away
with it. It's just so UGLY.

None of the bikes on your shortlist are pretty FFS.

Go and have a look at Verdi's Tiger. It is ugly but in a good way.

The 'Strom is certainly a pretty boy if you put it next to a Tiger
    I don't mind ugly.

Will you be clearing the garage of all the unnecessary shite to make
room for it? I fucking would.

Funny you should say that, but the pressure washer was moved out this

I can live with ugly but IMV the Varadero is rubbish. It's just so Honda.
Efficient but bland. The Africa Twin that it (sort of[1]) replaced was a
    much better bike.

[1] both were sold for a year or two

One of my local bike shops has an Africa Twin for about a grand. Next
time I'm there I'll take the milage and ask ToG for a valuation.

That's a helluva good price for an Africa Queen. If it's in decent nick,
with less than (say) 30k on the clock, and has some history, I'd buy it.

Could be a grey import, I suppose.

(My mate Niall bought a Val Doonican as well - he hated it. Too big, too
heavy and (above all) ridiculously thirsty. Even worse than my Trophy).

    On Tue, 25 Oct 2005 07:38:27 +0100,
I remember looking at it when I went to the shop in March, it's tucked
away behind all the other bikes. I wonder why it hasn't been sold. I
should be visiting them soon to have the ER-5's 20k service + new
chain added and I'll have a natter about it.

It's tucked away so it would be difficult to get it out (one would
have to move a load of other bikes and then take it down five stairs)
and I'm not sure if the shop offers test rides.

  18. If it's been rooted to the showroom floor for that long, I think they'll
rush to prep it for a ride, to be honest.

They are *excellent* bikes. Torquey, good looking, good handling,
reasonable on fuel, and fun. A much, much better bet, VFM-wise, than the
    Val Doonican.

    We concur then.

They are incredibly popular in Bavaria, Austria & N. Italy. Spares and
bling are plentiful as long as you speak enough German to work ebay.de

....And it was nowhere to be seen when I went in to book the ER-5's
    service.

    Bother.
