Bikes at The 'Ring

As part of my whole 'doing all those things I always wanted' thing - I drove
to The 'Ring last week. Then took in Davos-Stelvio/Monaco.

Anyway, the 'ring seemed to attract a LOT of bikers on the day I was there -
and seriously, it was terrifying as a first timer in a car, and some of it
was very bumpy, I can't even comprehend doing it on the bike to be fair.

So onto my question, has anyone here ever ridden the 'ring on a bike? More
to the point, has anyone ever ridden it like a track day on a sports bike,
on a normal tourist day? It was a weekday evening we went, so it was pretty
quiet - apparently that's mainly when the locals come out to play as they
know it'll be pretty much tourist free.

Oh yes, many times, I'm sure there are people who have done laps, I
haven't done it on a sports bike, but on a 1200 Bandit and a Z1000,
and yes, most riders do treat it like a trackday, other riders and
drivers get in your way all the time, but to be fair, you will also be
in other peoples' way some of the time.
On a bike I always find it pretty scary, in fact last time I was there
a couple of weeks ago, my mate and I who is also a 'ringer, decided
that because there was so much traffic and overly aggressive driving
and riding, we'd give it a miss and enjoy the roads around the area
    instead.

I am surprised by the guys who ride over from England or Holland and
spend all day doing laps, my experience is that a couple of fast laps
will see off a rear tyre, I can't imagine what they ride back on!!

  3. I'm going, with three mates, to that region from Sunday to Wednesday
and hopefully taking in a lap or 2 of the ring. This is my first
touring trip on a bike and it will probably be the last. My 3rd child
is due in September and, although I won't be selling the bike on Ebay,
I doubt I'll be able to afford such a trip again.

Weather forcast: rain, rain, rain and more rain.

    Bastard!

    That's utter cock.

My CBR600 has been running on the same pair of Metzeler Rennsport road
compound tyres for 8 track days. 3 of those were in the hands of my
racer mates Danny and Ratty when they needed to borrow it because their
own bikes were broken, and they were both instructing in the fast group
all day. The 5 trackdays I've done have mainly been at top end of
inters and a couple at lower/middle of fast group.

Those tyres are still on the CBR, but will be swopped onto my SV650S
for road use as they are starting to slide about when pushed on track.
They still have 3.5mm of tread left on the sides, and close to 5mm in
    the centre.

I recall Champ and crowd doing the best part of an 8 hour endurance
race on the same road legal Rennsport or Supercorsa at Snetterton.
There was also another team[1] who managed the whole race on one road
legal tyre, but theirs was absolutely shagged by the end.

[1] Whoever that Shelly burd was racing with.

Just to confirm, as others have said - this is utter nonsense.
