"It emerged two years ago that, as motorbikes do not have registration
plates on the front for safety reasons, the speeding riders were not
    being detected by front-facing cameras."

    It emerged? The mind boggles.

But I am wondering, is the braking distance for 140mph around 400m?
I wouldn't have thought so, but don't now really.

I like the picture with the 'fast' bike on it where they had to
take such a long exposure that the background went out of focus too.

I really don't think it's that far. That's probably the distance in
the back of the Highway Code for a 1973 Morris Minor.

I'm pretty sure the GSXR will do it in around 100 if my tests on the
C^H^H^H^a bypass are anything to go by. There's a sign post about
that distance from a roundabout and I could always stop from something
like those speeds before the roundabout after braking at the sign.

What's the problem? Bikes do speed. Bikes do not get caught by front facing
    cameras.
Some people who ride bikes crash them and die - a lot more then people who
    crash cars.

    I don't think it's actually a particularly terrible article - it's saying
"we've identified a group of persistent offenders, we are acting on this"

Would you bleat about it if the same article was about souped-up Novas?

I noticed the 2nd last paragraph that they are using "Specially designed
machines" to investigate the speed of motorcycle speeds. Wonder what type
    they are then?
Only stuff I can see after Googling was a double loop detector unit where
the system uses to loops in the ground 16ft apart to determine the speed,
and these are only usable to speeds of up to 127 mph. A Merkin piece of kit
    too.
So is it a weight measurement then speed detection system or something even
more cunning like one of the local neighbourhood watch scheme curtain
twitchers recording that a bike is approaching so starts the detector?

I ike the caption "Some riders are too fast for speed cameras". Didn't
Top Gear do a test a few years back and found that speeds in excess of
    170 (iirc) couldn't be registered?

Nice to see them giving targets for the different roads.
Can't crack the 139 but I'll give some of the other ones a go ;o)

  16. Is it **** that far - A ZX12R will stop fairly easily from 160mph to
0mph in 1/6 mile, as both myself and P. Gower discovered at his wheelie
    school

Fucking people in authority should be put up against a wall and shot for
    lying to the public. ****

Ah, good point. I suppose a planned brake from a certain point is
always going to be faster than an unplanned one.

But still, I'm sure the numbers are based around vehicles that are
heavy/have shite brakes rather than vehicles that weigh bugger all and
have some of the best brakes around[1].

[1] Is it just me or do other people love the whining noise that 6 pot
    Tokicos make when braking hard?

Last convertible was 1968, Saloon 1969, Traveller 1971 some vans were
still being made, fulfilling orders, in 1972.

Maybe for a 1973 Morris Marina (the Minor's replacement)
