Yes, it did, all the way to the High Court.

I imagine that cost as much as a decade's parking for everyone involved.

Sometimes that's not enough though. When I moved here most houses had
1 car, some had 2. Now 10 or so years later even 3 or 4 cars isn't
    exactly a rarity.

Absolutely, like buying houses next to airports. No, I agree with you, if
you're in Pikey Town where every house has 3 shite old cars and no offroad
parking, well, you should have noticed before you moved in.

Fuckme, that's what you get for senile dementia, yes, it did indeed go to court!
Which makes me wonder, in a thread drift, what councils can unilaterally do
and get away with. For instance, my brother voted for, and got residents
parking. For the privilege, he pays an 'administration fee'. But say he voted
no. I guess he has to pay or park elsewhere, even though, he's incurring no
'administration' by not having a permit!

I have to pay to park outside my own house. I had to buy the bit of
    land I call "the drive".

on the other hand, if you live in a residential area a 5 minute walk from a
university's engineering department you will be glad that there is some
residents only parking on your street after 0830. Each house on the street
had 1 free permit and additional ones cost £10 per annum. As there were a
couple of businesses in the street there was some unrestricted spaces[1]
which could be used by visitors. A pragmatic approach, don't you think?

[1] well, eroded single yellow lines which were never enforced as the signs
would always be removed by the lock-up owners, allegedly.

Agree totally. We have off-road parking for 5 cars, two sheds and two
garages here, it's ideal for me and my housemate.

  8. I reckon I could get a fleet of cars/bikes/buses parked around my gaff.
Half an acre of concrete, wonderful.

Meh! An attractive feature of our current domicile was the lengthy
road frontage, allowing four or five vehicles to be parked on the road
with no restrictions. We failed to take into account the school,
directly opposite: the "designated crossing point" is the end of our
car-and a half driveway (which is a PITA) and we got pressure from the
mummies to keep the road outside the house clear, for "visibility" at
    crossing times.

Now the cunts are going to put a proper crossing in, because "there's
been two near misses" - several years ago - which will put zigzags
along the whole length of our frontage. That's going to make trailer
operations more than a bit tricky, unless I park on the zigzags to
unhitch. It will also involve removing seven mature trees,
part-demolishing and rebuilding the garden wall and subsequently hard
surfacing to make our driveway wide enough to take two cars.

When this comes to pass there'll be pressure from me to make all the
cunts comply with parking rules when they land their vehicles without a
care, all around the junctions with not even a nod to traffic flow or
obstruction. I can see twice-daily emailing of pictures of offending
vehicles to Plod in my future.

  12. Too right. The school-run harridans need a reality dose. They simply
don't give a shit about the effect their actions en-masse have on
others, as long as little Johnny is dropped off in time.

Well, exactly. Clear line of sight for 100m each way and generally,
not much breaking the 30 limit, particularly at school times as they
have to weave around and past all the 4WD stuff landed on the kerbs.

I reckon they ought to make it worth my while to take up the Lollipop.
