As my knee's have finally given up after a lifetime's grovelling on
cold garage floors I'm looking to equip the workshop with a hydraulic
    bench / table type thingy.

Can anyone recommend one that is stable and safe but costs less than
    the bike itself???

    Looks Ok.
Ebay has plenty to choose from, depends on the budget really.
We had 3 at a place I used to work at for small plant hire machinery
stripdowns etc. I put the Trophy on one once and strapped it down, seemed
    precarious but was ok.
    It's a case of pick n choose
