    ... finally!

Definitely one of the things I didn't anticipate when buying a Pegaso 2
years ago is how difficult it would be to sell the thing. Seems most
people have never heard of it.

I imagine this is largely the same for any rare bit of machinery.

Don't think I'll buy another Aprilia, though. In my experience dealer
support was limited at best, and waiting several weeks for some parts
    left a bad taste.

Also, hard to find a decent mechanic; very few have ever touched that
model of bike. A few rather fundamental design flaws make most of the
basic servicing tasks a pain in the arse.

Still... not my problem anymore. ;-)

So what next? Most likely a track bike, though not for 12 months I
reckon. Perhaps a scooter along the way.

Lots of bicycling in the meantime ;-(

Interestingly, some of their owners can occasionally manage words with
    more than one syllable, too.

no need to pontificate about the obvious. leave that up to the owners of
    those European thoroughbreds.

  5. Now that's just blatant thievery of a iconic HD owner put-down. :)

    erm
considering the pegaso and the bmw 650 share the same engine with a few
changes you could have had it serviced at bmw.

considering the pegaso and the bmw 650 share the same engine with a few
The top end is not the same; indeed they don't even have the same number
    of valves.

So, once you discount the top-end - and fuelling systems which are also
different - what engine-related servicing does that leave?

Not many bikes need new rings or rods every 10,000km. 'cept those
    shitty beemers, perhaps ;-)

It barely needs to be said that more than just the engine requires
    servicing attention on a bike.

One thing I will point out, though, is that our mate Pete here was an
invaluable resource throughout the two years I had the bike, no question
at all. He went to great lengths to make my Pegaso years enjoyable and
    I'm very grateful!

Mind you, if it weren't for him, I never woulda bought the thing ;-)

Definitely, though, it's a bike more appropriate for a fellow like him
(with a garage the size of the MCG and excellent technical skills +
    patience) than myself.

Horses for courses.. Pegasus's for .. er.. y'know.

Actually Pete I have a handful of leftover shims which I will drop off
    at some point.

In Sydney most of 'em won't touch a bike over 5 years old anyway. I
presume the thought of doing more than an oil change scares them or
    something...

Luckily those of us with weirdshit Eurobikes in Sydney can use Moto
Ciclo, the older the better as far as John is concerned. Or MMT in
Granville will take anything on as far as I can see - old, young, Euro,
    Jap....

I think most big shops don't want to know because the odd stuff takes
too much time, and they make their money by getting bikes in and out
quickly. The one man shops are willing to take that time.

Who knows...they're big enough to do the job as swingarm-spacers...you might
    need 'em one day :)

I think most big shops don't want to know because the odd stuff takes
Totally; I understand the economics of the situation. Unfortunately for
me that will dictate what I buy in future.

Anyway.. UJMs don't need servicing ;-)

Being an incurable Eurobike addict, I can't let economics dictate my
    purchases.

I tried once, but I was miserable, and had to buy another Guzzi to cheer
    myself up.

    That's a problem. There's probably less than 15 Daytona 955s running
around here. The mechs don't get a lot of experience, particularly when
    some victims never return.

On the other hand there are web sites and forums with hundreds or
sometimes thousands of owners, with discussions and solutions and
    databases etc...

In fact, I even got aquainted with the mighty Clem in one. He told me
    about a newsgroup called aus.moto...
