I found this whilst looking for something else (bit like the back of the
    garage really).

Seems to be a thorough treatment of the subject, albeit with a USA bias.

    Thanks for that.

What a good article that is. It seems my tactic of using car oils and
changing them a little more often[1] has been worthwhile.

No doubt the nay sayers will chime in soon, and I still wouldn't use a
boutique oil as my clucthes don't seem to like them.

    Castrol GTX it is then!

[1]Actually, Castrol GTX or MotorMania own brand semi-synth its been for
years. Change at 66% of the recommended mileage or so. When I was
despatching, I changed the oil every week. Bulk purchase of car oil in
    10/40 saves a small fortune.

Every 2000miles for me, on bog standard car oil - Castrol/Duckhams,
    etc. Filter every second change.

One of my engines has survived 200,000 miles of not too gentle
    treatment under this regime.

I tend to think that at 250 miles/litre just topping up with some green
    halfords stuff does the trick.
