    What about a Falco, then?

Mind, the 2001-onwards models don't look as good as the earlier ones.
Oh, and they do that Falco-R abortion thingy now, don't they. Forget it.

darsy was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Well, I know where you can get a brand new one or two. Email me if
    interested...

As Lozzo pointed out, for some completely unexplainable reason the YB7
appears to be my most reliable bike. However the Sports Bimotas have
all the downsides of the Fireblade, only more expensive.

    well it's different.

I think you should either go for a Blackbird [1], ZX12 or the Tuono.

[1] several second hand ones at Woodford Motorcycles going for quite low
amounts of cash. I was almost tempted.

I fancied a Blackbird a couple of years ago - gone off them now. I'd
not want a ZX12 - just horrible; if I were buying a hypersports bike,
    it'd be the All-black 'busa.
Blackbird's are definitely cheap. Maybe there's a reason for that.

Don't worry, after the magistrates have given you a good telling off you
can select a replacement from here ;-)

How about a KTM Duke 950?

I thought that until I saw it in real life.

  9. That wasn't the pre-EOSM incident I sort of witnessed, was it?

How can you say the ZX12 is horrible and like the 'busa? The 'busa fell
out of the top of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Anyway, you obviously need two bikes. One for speed, so keep/update the
'blade, and one for comfort, I know you don't like Triumphs but my Tiger
has been a revelation to me. It's an absolute scream and can be used for
two-up touring or larking about, it really is a fun bike.

oh OK, then. So, not uncomfortable, only slightly tall, and not
particularly slow (though slower than a 'blade).

Well, you see, when you are riding a bike, if you know what you're
about, you're not looking at it, you're watching the road and traffic.

And when you're not riding it, you're most likely drinking yourself
blind or something. So, there's really only those few moments while
you're walking toward the bike when you have to look at it directly.

I suggest buying whatever bike performs the best per your subjective
requirements, and simply keep your eyes closed at those critical
moments. Truth be told, this is actually a fairly common strategy,
being widely employed by a goodly number of unfortunate owners of
truly awful looking bikes, with generally good results.

The ones on their website look pretty ropey to me, and pretty expensive
    given the mileage.

    @4ax.com:

Not really. Been looking for a week or so, and they seem to hold their
value reasonably well. There are some good ones about, but most tend to be
    overpriced dealer crap.

No, it' still in the garage. Put it in loot this week, just to have a laugh
    when no-one calls.

    I found it was.
I can't put both feet on the ground while sat on the Tuono.
I found the one I rode to be a fair bit slower than a Mille,
perhaps it was just that bike but it was slow for a thou, imo.

The best thing about it was the sound it made, serious
    ball-clanging stuff.
