Bike Trailers and Frogland

  1. Is it my imagination, or did someone say recently that France doesn't
    allow bike trailers?

IIRC that's Spain (or it was, dunno if it is now)

To be sure, I'd suggest dropping an e-mail to Watsonian Squire via
    http://www.motorcycle-luggage-trailers.info/trailer_feedback.htm

  7. I remember seeing a French registered trailer, that was a beer barrel
mounted on a solo wheel chassis, at Le Mans in the mid-1980s.

So it's your imagination, or your Alzheimer's.

    Lovely.

Now all I have to do is persuade P&O to let me take the trailer on the
TOGTour without charging me any more.

I await my booking reference with bated breath.

  9. Strap a small folding bicycle to the pillion seat.

    Bicycles travel free on boats.

Then tie the trailer to it and get someone to pedal it into the ship.

    You're weird.

Fucking good idea though. I'd need some way to encourage the volunteer.
I'll suspend a bottle of cheap beer from a fishing rod so it dangles
just over the front mudguard of the bicycle, that should do it.

I've done that, except the bottle of beer was a carrot being suspended
on a stick by my brother, who was sitting backwards on the back of my
dad's DT175MX, whilst dad rode it past me.

This wouldn't have been a problem were it not for the fact I was riding
my donkey[1] at the time. The ensuing carnage was worthy of a Thelwell
    cartoon.

    [1] No, that isn't a euphemism.

Ooops, I just thought about this. They're still allowed anyway
otherwise these wouldn't be sold here:

    http://sylgerdesign.free.fr/remorq_fr.html

'sides, I wouldn't have thought that a UK registered bike would be
banned from French roads, just because it was towing a trailer.

  18. I dunno. We banned right-hand sidecars for a while.... And you're not
llowed to tow a bike in France, are you, so I can't see that a UK reg
would work as a Get Out Of Jail Free card.

Err, you are allowed to tow bikes in France. They sell enough bike
trailers to suggest this is the case.

I read that as towing a bike directly, rather than towing a bike on a
trailer, iyswim. After all, in that case you'd be towing a trailer, not
    a bike.
