Bike theft from our company

Toe-rags had a shiny Triumph Daytona 675 away from our bike park,
inside the company fence, this week. Poor owner had only just bought
it, after having had White Van Man total his R6.

CCTV coverage didn't faze the toe-rags, apparently. They cut the lock
and just wheeled it away and out the side gate with the alarm
shrieking, and the people in the offices overlooking the bike park
    didn't do anything.

The rest of us are wondering if they'll have another crack. The guy
with a Ducati 848 is using an FOAD chain to lock it to the railings,
but I think the best solution is not to subjectyour pride and joy to
the commute in the first place (let alone a Ducati, in London
    traffic).

I'm relying on the hope that a thief would have to be pretty desperate
to want to nick my GN250. There are still some bikes there, though,
that don't even have the steering lock on, FFS.

Does it make clear what they used to cut the lock?

No idea. Bolt croppers, I suppose, but wibbleflip.

Poor bugger. I bet he's over the moon atm.

I never use the steering lock or otherwise where I park my bike. I
occasionally use it in Paris and sometimes the disc lock. Mined Ewe,
the last time I use my disc lock, I forgot to click it closed when I
left my appointment and I left the lock somewhere on the route home.

I asked as even an Almax or Abus U lock are like plastecine if they carry a
    hydraulic cropper.

Not good, i leave my Sprint simply on the sidestand with no lock at
all, but we have more camera's and security guards walking around than
you would beleive, and i seem to know them all as i fix there computers
so they look out for my bike.

Bugger that's got to hurt. We've just had an expensive bicycle (all
locked up) nicked from the underground, cctv'ed carpark that we all use.

I don't use the steering or a disk lock. Both (especially steering lock)
are as much use a chocolate teapot imo.

I trust the owner will be popping down to thank them personally?

That was rather my reaction. I always have a brief look outside
whenever an alarm sounds, on the basis that I hope someone else will
do that if my alarm ever goes off.

I'd guess that they were probably scared and the usual reaction of "it
ain't my business" came into play.

Actually, the offices overlooking the bike bay are occupied by the
Fashionista: some ladies' wear company, so they wouldn't recognise a
    motorcycle alarm from a thunderclap.

One needs a ghetto blaster then - 'Ladies , this is the sound of
    a motorcycle rape alarm....'

Did it have a noisy exhaust? If so they may have "Contracted" its removal
