Got my Tax reminder through, ooooh, weeks ago, and promptly forgot all
about it ... until this morning ... and I couldn't find my MOT[1].
Still, leaflet said I wouldn't need it[2] - just go online to
(www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc) and enter the renewal number from the
    form.

So I went online and failed due to "MOT not found in Db" which was
    hardly surprising, really.

    Arses.

As I couldn't find it I'd have to get a replacement even if I was to
stand in line at the PO, so a quick call to Alan[3] and he had a
replacement "databased" MOT for me in 20 mins. 5 mins back to the
office and tried again - bingo!

Nice, except they were going to charge me £2.50 for using c/c. I
thought "**** 'em, I'll use my Switch". I don't think I've *ever* used
    it online.

Anyway, one minute and it was a done deal. Couldn't have been easier.
The only disappointment was that the receipt didn't have an official
"Tax disc in post" cut-out, which would have been nice and it forgot
my eMail address for a copy of the reciept.

    That's all.

[1] It was one of the old analogue ones anyway.
    [2] Yes, yes, I know - see [1]
[3] At Twistgrip Motorcycles in Nottingham - well worth using IME, if
    you're in range.

Is it still an offence merely to 'fail to display' a valid tax disc ?

I once got a fixed penalty for said heinous crime when mine dropped off
my Bloop many years ago and I hadn't noticed. No excuses said the
jobsworths - at least you won't get done for back tax.

Yes it is, although TBH I've not "displayed" my tax disc since getting
    the Snottoiler fitted.

Mine is displayed freely - in a drawer in the living room, as Loz
    found the other night.

I wondered where that had got to ...
