As the boy had a large sum of money burning a hole in his wallet we
took a trip to the NEC yesterday.

I have to report that it was more shite that usual, smaller, and the
retail stands were all much smaller than previously. I even managed to
visit the GLF stand and *not* buy anything (we wanted Daytona boots,
but all Graham had on display this year was Held gloves).

Anyhoo, he had a good day, new 1 piece leathers (not quite as gay as
*those* leathers), new boots (Sidi Vertebras), hugger and hot grips for
the NC30. I treated myself to hotgrips for the Zeph.

The new Harley Davisdon XR (I think that's what it's called) was
interesting. Nicely styled rear, but still ultimately a HD. We both
had a sit on it whilst the salesman announced to us that it was
designed for the european market and unlike previous models actually
stops *and* goes round corners. We both had to stifle sniggers and
smirking so politely fucked off. The latest Buell sporty job was
intersting too, as it's motor was made by Rotax rather than HD.

Fucking expensive day out though, £15 each to get in, £8 to park and
six fucking quid for 2 pissy lagers.

That's as may be but I'm up to my neck with work shit at the moment, so
only needed the flimsiest of excuses to cancel what's really quite a
    pointless day off.

Better I get more of the crap shifted now so I can actually have an
    enjoyable christmas.

I'm going next weekend and I'm sure I'll enjoy myself spending money.

I want a pair of lined winter overtrousers, some handlebar muffs for
the BMW, some paddock stand bobbins for the KTM, some good under
gloves, possibly a tail tidy for the KTM and probably other assorted
crap that I'll see and want. A bike show is the best place to get it
    all in one day out.

    Quite.
What made it enjoyable for me was at least having a mission, i.e get
the boy kitted out (which we did).

I wouldn't have considered it such fun had I merely wandered along for
something to do, as (imho) it was not as good as previous years.

This is it for me in a nutshell. Last year I wanted to check out as
many bikes as possible before I spent my dosh on a shiny, sparkly new
one, and it was a useful exercise.

I was suprised too - there were a couple of bikes that would never have
been on my shortlist[1] that I got a good feel for, and one that I
    wanted to like but hated[2].

Browsing the clothing stands was a pain though, as although I was
thinking of a new lid, I wasn't 100% committed to it and found that
queuing up with the masses to try and get the attention of a sales
droid was tedious in the extreme.

evening tomorrow after the show if you (or anyone else) fancies
popping over for a meal or a jar.
