Bike shopping

I'm looking for a bike to fix up and either keep to ride, or resale.
Joe and I, along with some friends, rode out to look at a '92 Vulcan 500
today. There's a few minor dents in the tank, the valves (and maybe timing
chain?) rattle and the belt squeaks when you goose it, plus it idles too
fast (he's tried to adjust it to no avail). Other than that, it runs fine
but it needs new tires and a new paint job, real bad. I'm thinking it's a
bit over priced at $1500, you reckon? ;)

Joe could fix whatever is wrong mechanically and I can do the cosmetic work
but I'm seriously thinking resale here and it isn't adding up, considering
    parts and labor.
On the other hand, I know where an '82 Kawasaki LTD 750 might be available,
for $600. Decisions, decisions and miles between...

That '82 sounds like a steal, if it doesn't take too much work.

BTW, did you see Ari Rankum's blow up in reeky? You know anything
    concerning his rant?

The guy still had it as of this morning, so I'm going to call him after we
get back from our ride-to meeting tomorrow in Abilene and see if we can go
    take a look at it.

Waco, I'm _official_, as of today. I "sold my car" this morning and except
for using our truck to haul big stuff like pipe, motors, farm stuff, etc.,
my transportation is my motorcycle. :)
Because you just asked me, I pulled up reeky (haven't been reading that
group in a while) and I saw one post from you and the post from Ari. I've
    sent you an email.

That's a big step. Congrats! I've stopped buying cars as
transportation. Any car I buy now will merely a garage toy, perhaps a
    collectible.
    Thanks much. I appreciate it.

I LIked the part where you say'' other than that, it runs fine''. LOL.
I always try to figure the market, what is the market for a certain
size, brand, and stuff, for anything I remodel to sell, and try to make
    a nickel.
And, (about) what is it worth, later on. I know this is hard, because
there's a buyer for any and everthing.
    I guess your'e gonna' go look at the '82 Kawa 750? I would. bjay:~(

I wouldn't mind having that old Chevy that my neighbor has. It's so purty.
    :)
Any time, Waco. I don't know if it helped but I hope so.

    responds again:
Hey, After I posted the above, I kinda regretted it. Have ya' ever typed
out a response, and hit the key to submit, and think later ''I shouldnt
    have said it that way''
Here's the deal: I always wondered about folks that say ''I Ride''. I
ain't gonna be seen in no cage around town. (addLibbing some here).
But: That is what I call having personal priorties. I am no body to to
butt in. I do stuff, and buy shit, & say shit, that my family probably
    wonders about me. heh heh.
LIke: Someone pays 10,000 for a Bass Boat. To me, I think, pitiful to
pay that much to go fishing. But there again, priorties, right. But we
Bikers, buy expensive bikes, or expensive chrome, and stuff. (priorties)
    blah-blah & blah-
NOW: I wanna say I admire you, a lady, commiting herself to mainly
coming and going, shop, maybe go to church, whatever, and you intend to
do it on a Bike, by golly. (cheers)
Much applause to ya, Sunny Gal.
Regards to a sure nuff woman Biker, I say. I'd like to meet ya someday.
Ride Safe, and watch out for the deer, dear!! (wink) bjay)

Bjay, for some people, it doesn't matter what you type. They'll take it
wrong, no matter what. But I knew you were just kidding around. :)
Hey, don't get me wrong but I "liked" my car... a lot. It is a darn good
car, with great gas mileage (34 mpg) but we need other things more than we
did the car. We still have our truck for farm/mechanic needs and if I need
to go buy a "months worth" of groceries, I'll take it to market but riding a
bike isn't only for fun, it's practical.
    I hear ya.
Thanks, Bjay. My father-in-law wasn't too thrilled with the idea, because
he was hoping I'd sell the bike instead but he knows how I love my
motorcycle, just like he loves his old tractors. Btw, he turns 80 on the
5th and he still runs those tractors and his backhoe. You can't find a
better backhoe operator anywhere, than he is. :)
And I, you. Maybe we will meet one day.
    Ah, most definetly. You too!

ROTFL.. Pretty typical for you, isn't it ? The questions are .. (1) Why
didn't you respond to Ari Rankum in the newsgroup where he posted the usenet
trash ? (2) What would even cause the simple minded **** to post some kind
of sleazy bullshit like that, anyway ? (3) Why is it necessary for you to
respond to Waco by e-mail rather than on the newsgroup where he posed the
    question to you ? hmmm

Your e-mail communications have already caused a ton of grief on two
newsgroups that I am aware of.. Got one of your so-called friendlies bitch
slapped and caused another one to have a hysterical fit and drop his
motorcycle.. <evil grin> And all that was on a good day..

~~You might remember my Honey is riding some. Shes doing fairly well at
    it.
Again, I son't care what anyone says or thinks, but 'not many' of us
guys on here actually knows a Gal that really and truly Rides, I know I
dont.~ My daughter has a 600 Shadow, and rides occasionaly, and the
other daughter that just moved to Arkadelphia (from Houston), traded her
600 Shadow and got a 06 SilverWing, just lately!! ~~You might have read
where I posted about the SilverWing. She's a Penecostal, and doesnt even
own jeans. So the SilverWing is just right for riding with a blue Jean
Skirt on, right (grin>) She rode the Shadow wearing Coolocks (however ya
    spell 'em) (grin)
So, I am around women bikers, but not to the extent that you claim, you
are. nice chatting with ya. Bjay:~)

Yes, I do remeber that your wife passed her test and is riding and that one
daughter rides a Shadow and the other one bought a SilverWing. That's very
    good!
I've seen a couple of ladies riding around town on their own motorcycles.
We have several licensed lady riders in our club but that I know of, I'm the
only one that rides a motorcycle on a daily basis. Most of the others ride
    trikes and that's ok too.

Take care, Bjay. The best to you and family.

Ah, ok. Well, I'm just looking for a fixer-upper. Plus a friend is looking
for a learner's bike and she wants us to get one soon.
I'll be looking at a couple more bikes this week, so I'll do some research
before I go. Thanks anyway, Harold.

    Ride safe,
