Jefferson Texas is known for it's old Homes, some built in 1870's. The town was a river boat thriving place from about 1860 thru 1920's. The old river was in good shape, and steamBoats commuted up and down the old river from Shreveport. ~~~~I crossposted this Bike post to share with my two friendlies in reeky~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <> Here is the report<> We ride down there often, its about 65 miles. On Saturday, 4.30.05 along with RT, Larry & Paula, we left here in 50* coolness. We stopped at Domino,tx, a one horse little township, and visited with a CMA Bike rally. Then ride on to Jefferson. We pull up & stop to see where we wanted to eat and started to crank, and mine wouldn't turn over. I checked all the stuff, kill switch, messed with kickStand, and scratched my head.....??><?>?!!11? Well sir, a fellow rides up out of the clear blue, riding a Valcre, wearing a dark shield, turns his off. While sitting on his bike he ''says, so it won't turn over''? My wife and I both say ''oh no, we guess the battery decided to quit''>?<>!!!! The nice guy says''I bet I know whats wrong''!!!?> He said pull off the right side cover, and wiggle the 'wiring wad' area''!! While he messes with that wad of wire connections etc, the Honda Shadow bust right off, it started......He said, mine did that once while I was on the road, and he said he did the same thing and his started. He said since then, he's helped numerous Bikers stranded. He said he, went into alll the wireing connectors and cleaned them and lubed em', and his bike has been okay since. He said Honda wanted a couple hundred to replace stuff in that area. He joined us to eat and rides with us, the rest of the day. I bought his lunch and a few beers, He lives in Atlanta, tex. We intend to see more of him and keep him in our prayers, so to speak. (smile) My bike got us back home, it did the same thing a few more times, But I got the ''wiggling to start thing, down pat''. otherwise it was a fun motorcycle riding adventure, along with good friends. These are the wonderful memories of the adventure of MotorCycling. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PS)I know I have 4 or 5 friendlies that will comment on my Bike trip report, and folks, that's all it takes to make my day. NO more, no less. -----b.j. kana-----
Good ride report Bjay.. better watch that wiring problem .. If it gets much worse and all that mess of wiring commences to heat up, when it get hot enough to melt insulation, you will be on the side of the road.. Happened to me in Mexico, yeah long years ago.. I won't tell ol' Darcy McCloskey that I caught you hanging out in Domino, if you'll promise to head out to Redwater for his next prayer meetin'... thank goodness is was that easy. Yuasa batteries are also known for sudden death syndrome. Turn it on and CLICK! that's it. Everything lights, but but hit the starter, everything dies (clock, gages, everything). No option but to replace the battery when it happens because it's busted a plate inside the battery. Seen it several times (and heard of it MANY times). Probably a good thing to clean, grease (dielectric), and reattach those cables each time you check the water in the battery. In Tx' summers that'd be about every two weeks.
if that bike was still failing on the ride home and you had to wiggle the wires to get it going, you'd better find the fault and fix it for real. all it has to do is fail on a crowded freeway at 70 mph and your survivors will have more to fix than wires.

Had two batteries die easy, on two vehicles, and both in my car port. Alternator went out on one, once, in tha carport. two different ''flats'', months apart, were in the carport. I can't remember when I was stranded out on some parking lot, with a vehicle down. ---this fellow, noticed a lone biker/wife, standing and wondering, puzzled, and he stops, a Good Sumaritan, he wuz. Makes me wanna pay somebody back, and i'll do it, if I ever see a Biker down. --I've already checked and cleaned and lubed the wad of wires and conectors in that area, that made it possible to start our Bike.......bjayKANA 05.02.05 'Ya'll take care'' --BJAY--

Oh yeah, that's a good point. But, it only failed to turn over, when we stopped and I turned it off. Got home, and it didnt do anymore. I can't beleive you had a problem with a Honda. I thought they were perfect! Mine have been, anyway.... Yep, happened to me twice, exactly as you described with my V-65 Magna. Lights came on, but as soon as I hit the starter button, all was dead. I'm in the process of moving right now, my job in LA is done so I loaded the bike in the truck and am headed back to Austin. Sucks to have to carry the bike in the truck, but I couldn't figure out how to put the truck on the bike.

If things work out, I could be working in Dallas. It would be nice to work that close to home for a while. A meet is definitely in order. George
