He probably means it has those carbu-whatever things that they stopped
putting on cars 10 years ago.

I agree. Three is just wrong. Even BMW stopped making them.

    There's something odd about three.

    The 180 or the 120? I had a mate with a 180, and smooth it wasn't.

In the case of 120° triples I would have thought so too but apparently
they're not. The Trump uses a balance shaft.

I cant understand why people get a naked bike and then ride it with clothes
on. Sort of defeats the purpose

    What a bloke. :)

Why naked? You dont intend on touring with it? What do you want the
bike for mainly? Since no fairing is fucked touring.and 1200 is not
really needed for riding 20klms to work

Well basically I want a naked bike because of the riding position which is
somewhat more upright than some of the sports bikes that trusses your feet
up past your arse somewhere and causes pain in my legs.

I also don't like the way in which the faring doesn't move in the front of
the bike when you turn , not to mention that quite a lot of the fared bike
have drop bars or low handlebars that causes you to lean over on the tank.

And I reckon that a naked bike looks and feels a lot better than a fared
    bike.

I would be quite happy with something like a 750 - 900 cc but because there
is not many mid range naked bikes , I may have to go to something like a
    1200 - 1400 cc bike.

My bike is the only form of transport that I have got , so my new bike will
be for general riding around as well as going to/from work.

OK, well if you are actually buying new (for some reason the way you
worded the original implied you weren't to me), then do ride the new
Bandit two wheels tested the new batch of big bore nakeds back to back
some time in the last 18months, and the Bandit 1250 came out quite
    well in it.

If you like the CB900, consider test riding a Z1000. There's a lot of
bikes one size smaller (and hence less like hard work to ride) that
are still quite comfy things like the Griso, BMW R series, SV1000 etc

<boggle!> Not many mid range nakeds ? Blimey !

OK, so we have Suzuki SV650 (and 1000), Kwaka Z750 (and 1000), CB900,
Aprilia Shiver 750, the Aprilia 850 twin is due soon too, Triumph 675
(and 1050 speed triple), Cagiva Raptor 650 (and 1000) Guzzi Griso 850
(and several others I think ), What's the 850 twin that BMW released
last year called again ? (same motor is in the F850), is there still
an R850 as well ? Yamaha FZ6, Hyosung 650 Comet, Ducati Monster (errm
    695 and 850 now I think ??), Kwaka ER6N. I'm sure I've forgotten
    some !

There's also the crossover stuff - Honda has the Dullville, BMW's
    F850, Suzi DL650, Yam TDM900, Kwaka has I think it's the Versys
    (750?).

Well then I'd be going for something a bit lighter than a GSX1400 if
    it was me !

    Thanks.
Yeah , I would like to test ride the Bandit to see how it stacks up with the
900 Hornet in both performance and riding position.
I am not overly keen on the Kawasakis , particularly the styling on the
newer ones , the ZRX 1200 is more of my style of bike.

Thanks for the list , I didn't realise that there were that my mid range
    nakeds.
I will have a look at them .
At the moment my budget for a bike is up to $16K
Yeah , the GSX 1400 is a little bit big , I was just really going on the
    style and the riding position.

All of the motors in the bunch you've listed are relatively low tech.
The highest spec one is the CB900 running a detuned CBR929RR motor,
but in all honesty why would you care - the whole bunch of them are
fat heavy torque monsters designed to make light work of 2 up day
rides and weekends away. Their target demographic is middle aged empty
nesters returning to bikes after a while away. They've been built to
be extremely reliable, comfortable and low maintenance.

    JL
(the CB900 is a bit of an odd one out in your list btw - it comes from
a different group - it's out of the naked hoon bike set, albeit it's
by far the softest and least sporty of that set)

You'll have no trouble finding a good bike for that.
Have a good trawl around, there's a lot of bikes out there - the model
range at the moment is huge, and you may find some of the things
you've ignored may suit you well (ie consider bikes with a bikini
fairing for example). Hell go right outside your comfort zone and take
a Burgmann 650 or Gilera Nexus 850 for a spin !! Comfy seating
position, lightweight do everything two wheeler, but def. not
    unfaired :)

I'd strongly point you towards considering some of the dual purpose
stuff, particularly if you're on the taller side. Things like the TDM,
the DL1000 and Tiger1050 would be great for someone with only one
vehicle and hence needing a "do everything bike".

What's your horsepower needs, and physical size?

There's always the 750 Breva. Light and nimble and loves to be
revved, good on rough surfaces. And very well supported in WA by
    Thunderbikes.

<shrug> I'd choose it out of the above list, but I wouldn't otherwise
buy one. If I wanted a litre-ish naked bike I'd buy the FZ1 over the
Z1000 over the CB900. Heavier and less capable.
