Friend has a 6'2" 16 (almost 17) year old son who wants to start
    riding.

Any suggestions for a 80/100/125 cc bike that he wouldn't look stupid
    on?

Insurance quotes for varadero 125 coming in at £1500 TPFT, so he'd
    prefer a smaller one.

    P.S

Hello all, haven't forgotten you, just busy.

Must buy new bike. Just got new car. Skint.

MrMoosehead emerged from their own little world to say
The Suzuki trail bikes have quite a high seat height. My 6'4" mate had one
for a while. TS125 or summat. Not sure if they do a smaller version that
    isn't a moped.

the new Yamaha DT125X supermoto[1] looks a laugh.
    a smaller quote, you mean?

How about a 2nd-hand TDR125, if you can find one[2]?

  5. If he doesn't fancy a traily then how about a GS125? I can fit on one
    so he oughta be OK.

Hang about, I'm about to sell mine. I'm in Oxfordshire.

It's in good condition and I'm looking at 1800 quid and you get a
helmet and gloves thrown in with that. It's done 7400 miles, and has
just had the 'big' service done and has a full service history. I
bought it from new in December 2003 and it's never had any problems.
I'm 6 foot tall, and I fit on it OK.

  7. Agreed. I'm 6'1" and look a little 'stupid' on a CG (I've got a pic
somewhere) but TPFT was £190 (age 19, full car license). My '97 machine
has a seat height of about 780mm, with suspension adjusted this is
actually quite reasonable as there is plenty of between foot rest and
gear lever (or maybe my footrest is bent from when I went skating on the
side of the bike in the snow :)). I've spent less than £1000 on buying
bike, insurance, test fees, gear, bike repairs (i.e. everything) thus
far and hence have a lot left waiting for a nice cb5 (which incidentally
feels not that much physically bigger but definitely heavier). Unless
you've got cash to burn, £1500 tpft is too much imho.

Bear emerged from their own little world to say
'swot I did. Bought a leccy start GS125 for 900 quid. Rode it for 9 weeks
before the test. Passed the test, sold it for 900 quid and bought a new but
    pre-reg Honda Dominator.

neither would I, if I had an less limited budget - I think it'd make a
    great urban commuter.
