You have an Arai shaped head, IIRC.

As good on-road? From what I hear and read, both the R1150GS and
R1200GS are capable and comfortable long-distance tourers with some
(limited) off-road capacity, whereas the F800GS is much better off-
road but doesn't handle as well on tarmac. My riding is likely to be
tarmac (although I guess if we tour further afield it might be good to
be able to tackle some off-road).

I'd definitely sacrifice the off-road ability, though, for a better
combination of comfort, tarmac handling and price (and weight, in the
    case of the 1150).

    Cheers - Adam...

FUCTIFINO. I'm sticking with Uvex. Although a new visor has just set me
back £75 :( and a call from HSBC fraud division in Dheli.

Thanks Des - I'll take a look around, although there don't seem to be
that many about. Do you know what the 1200 is like?

    Cheers - Adam...

Yeah, it's a bit OTT TBH, but winter riding really fucks them up.
Well, Beav's paintjob is holding up well on my Wing so I'll keep it for
now. But might well start looking on ebay.de for a new one at those prices.
Why thankyou. A Dhansak would be lovely.

this is des. even if he's never actually seen one in the flesh he'll
claim that he's owned one for ten years and given half the models in
paris a lift to the shops on it.

Like Bear, I'll be after a new lid in the next week or so. I'll almost
certainly stick with Arai but for some folks on a stricter budget it
shows that it makes sense to check the price of replacement visors as
    well.

The K1200LT is vast and looks like something out of a 1950s sci-fi movie.
It doesn't remotely resemble the K1200GT, or the K1100LT for that matter.

www.ukgser.com has more info than you can cope with about the various
    versions of the BMW GS.

    I have a 2000 R1150GS which I bought in 2001. I've used it to travel all
over Europe - furthest being Croatia. It makes an excellent touring bike
as long as you are happy to cruise at no more than 90-100mph. The wind
blast gets a bit uncomfortable after that. Mrs Weller was happy with the
R1150 pillion perch on their huge trip around Europe earlier this year.

It is a heavy bike but has a very low centre of gravity due to the
engine format. I'm a short arse and manage it fine. A Triumph Tiger has
a similar mass but is less manageable for a short arse like me, as it
    has a much higher c-of-g.

The 800GS might be a good choice if you can get on with the seating
position. It doesn't suit me, my legs are too short.

    I wouldn't consider the R1200GS. I've not ridden one but I just don't
trust the technology. If you read the website above you will see it has
been plagued with many technical faults. Many have been connected with
the more complex electronics. These faults are less easily fixed by the
    home mechanic or independent workshop.

The bike I recommend you buy is a late R1150GS Adventure. Then find an
independent mechanic to service it for you. If you can, avoid the BMW
dealer network. Most are very expensive and some are downright
incompetent. There are exceptions: Southport Superbikes, Jeffries in
Yorkshire, Bristol Motorrad, BVM Stroud & Ocean Plymouth are dealers
    with decent reputations.
There are a number of decent independents about. We have one in S Wales,
there's one in Kent and another in Lancs that have decent reputations
here and in UKGSer. There are bound to be others.
