Do you think i'd be up to the job for a crosser?

    Dunno, I've heard you're a shit rider - so possibly not. ;)

As for the rack, well if it's lightweight compared to a road bike then
yes I guess so. Also you don't have expensive plastics / chrome work to
    **** up.

In fact, as you'll likely bin it lots (it's what crossers were made for
right?) it's probably more than fine.

Until you have to take it home in more than one large lump.

I told your mum not to say anything!

Yeah, I don't mind binning it but I'd rather not see it in pieces all over
    the M25.

No point taking broken plastics home.

  6. I don't think that will be an issue as long as it's fitted right and you
    strap the fucker down well.
What about when you snap the headstock and have seperated front and rear
    end?

Only immediate problem I can see is if you misjudge your extra width, and
clip something with either protruding bike wheel (on the left or right hand
side of the car). Could be nasty, especially on some of the narrower
    country roads.

I'm not sure what the new laws are regarding towing attachments etc. They
changed a few years ago, (when I had my caravan). After a certain age (1998

Look here http://www.davecooper.co.uk/products.htm (down the page a bit).

I've had one for about 10 years, carried everything up to a CR500 with no
problems (just make sure it's well strapped on!), although it has had a
couple of coats of paint over the years.

Major benefit over the one you showed is it is collapsible, you bolt the
main beam onto the towbar and the LH & RH members slip onto two box
sections. This means it can be stowed in the boot and leaves a lot less
sticking out when the bikes not being carried.

Mine cost around £50 and if you are into dirt bikes I reckon it is the best
    money you'll spend!

And no, I have no connection with the suppliers, I just like to promote a
    good piece of kit!

  10. I've used one briefly (400mls)- didn't like it much, but it
    (surprisingly) didn't fall off.
The one I used was knocked up from 1" square tube. Cost - £3.

  13. To be honest, you're probably better off spending the extra and getting
    a second-hand single bike trailer.

I've now reached the cocnclusion that my trailer is one of the most
useful bike accessories I've ever bought.

The buggers who keep borrowing it would support that view.....

    I thought that, tbh.
I am firmly of that opinion, also.
Third *ding* in a row for the strange bloke with the dodgy hair.
Have you successfully implemented a minimum loan fee, yet? Like, I
dunno, bottle of claret/day or summat?

    Pros:
    - easier to store than a trailer

    Cons:
    - almost certainly illegal to use (check the max. nose wheel weight for
your vehicle - it's probably well below 90Kgs, even for big 4x4s)
    - can be impossible to get the bike on by yourself when knackered, or
if you've binned it & damaged yourself
    - the money you save on getting a rack rather than a trailer will most
likely go on prematurely worn rear tyres & shocks

    If you've got something like a 4x4 with a separate chassis, get a 'U'
channel rack custom made that bolts to the chassis, with a removable
ramp to load the bike. Much easier to load, legal, & should be cheap if
you source the materials yourself from a scrappy. Failing that, go for a
used single bike trailer. You should be able to find one for well under
a ton, although it's not the best time of year to look.

Given some of the shit I've seen attached (and have attached!) to the
back of cars and some of the utter wankers whose idea of home built
excellence is a bit of dexion and B&Q's finest plywood this is probably
    not such a bad thing.

Especially when the cunting thing drops off and takes out me on my bike.
