Being a bit of a newbie and also being very slightly disabled (physically
not mentally ;-), would the collective knowledge here say that my current
bike is a relatively easy one to get to grips with, or are there others that
are a lot lighter, more upright or easier to ride for their given power?

Being that this is my first bike I have nothing to compare it with and just
wanted to figure out if my perseverance will pay off eventually.

I am rather hoping that it will become a little easier on the body when I
get past the muppet stage, or are there loads of bikes out there with
similar power and are easier to handle?

Personally I feel that you shouldn't really get on with the bandit, here,
    Ill tell you what?

ill do a straight swap with my CB350S for it, how's that?

Let's go out for a ride. A good number of UKRMers (me included) will
let you have a go on their bikes, as long as you promise to make good
anything you **** up (but I just cross my fingers behind my back).

IMO, the Bandit is a bit tall and top heavy, it's a great bike though.
Perhaps you should look at a SV650.

I have had several bone grafting ops to lower spine this has left some nerve
damage to legs, basically this means I lack some power and some feeling in
lower legs and feet... still walk not too bad though with the odd iffy week.
The area feeling the strain at the moment after a ride is not my lower back
as expected, but my neck and shoulders, not sure if it because I am still
gripping hell out of it, or if it is accelaration that yanks a few muscles?
    Ah good,
Snap, I could never upright the Bandit if it feel over.

Being a short arse I noticed its a bit of a reach to the floor, and being a
fat short arse does make it top heavy ... how perceptive of you :)

  9. Your Bandit is unfaired? Then it is only to be expected that you'll feel
the effects of the windblast as there is nothing to duck behind or to
    otherwise deflect the wind.

You would notice a range of effects depending on what other type of bike
you chose to ride. Sports bikes are designed for you to tuck down
beneath the screen but could cripple your back and legs. A traillie
would exacerbate the top heavy feeling and could be an issue with your
weaker legs. My R1150GS is top heavy when pushing it around but superbly
    balanced once on the move.

Something tells me that you might like a VFR800 - quick enough, good
riding position, not too tall, good fairing and screen. Reasonably
newbie friendly but can provide the fun if you need it. I found it easy
to move on to after a Bandit 600. However certain people on and off the
group call them dull because they are Hondas.
I did just wonder if you are still suffering from newbie nerves. It is
still early days. Just aim to enjoy your riding, relax, don't think too
hard about what you are trying to do. Book some training to help develop
your skills and confidence - better technique will help to ease some of
    the anxiety.

Possibly it is because you are tense and stressed.

Possibly it is because the bike is unfaired.

It'll be neck muscles, and after a summer on an unfaired bike you won't
    notice it any more.

I get the same on my unfaired Bandit. Only happens if I haven't ridden
for a couple of weeks then go at motorway speeds for an hour or so.
I'd give it time before looking at changing bike yet, it may go away
    after a while.

What he said (except the bit about Dunstable being comfortable).

I've always had unfaired bikes and you soon get used to it. I tend to
smile when I read in the bike mags when girly foo-foo journos complain
    about unfaired machines.
