The Older Gentleman emerged from their own little world to say
Didn't Bike strip down a CBR600, mid to late 1990s, that ran for several
tens of thousands of miles on the same Motul oil? Hardly any wear in the
    engine IIRC.

The Older Gentleman scribbled on the back of a napkin:
But wouldn't that mean that you get not only all the fun, but also all
the crap like chasing all those contributers who have a Dan Walsh
    approach to deadlines?

OTOH the bike pool in ukrmc may be big enough to have something to
    write about every month...

    Web mag, anyone?

You can have the used one.
I may be a while. You might want to find something else to amuse you in
the meantime. You might want to invest in a *lot* of wet wipes too.

I think that's a big part of PB's new strategy. Tho it still does new 'uns
too. I s'pose to a degree the all have to ...unless as TOG says they're
    totally niche.

A propo the neglected NSR ..... shame him into it!
Tell him my youngest daughter would fight him for it if she had the chance!

Fair enough but they are imperfect substitutes, no ? You don't
<shrug> Ok, I'll freely admit that I don't work in the industry, I have
a mate who works for a bike mag, but obviously the requisite knowledge
hasn't come to me by osmosis.

So enlighten me, how DOES it work ? Out of the pool of people who were
reading a magazine, they never buy another magazine again ? Yes I do
realise that some people buy multiple mags but not everyone does that,
most people I know have a "main mag" and one or two they buy irregularly.
I'm not ashamed at all, however it's not very useful to just say, "you
    don't have a clue" - please elucidate.
Blimey ! You really do wish to be difficult ! There's two markets here,
one is the readers, hence increased readership is indeed increased
market share, but not the market power being discussed above.

The other is share of advertising dollar, and increased readership must
put you in a stronger position, *how much* stronger will depend(1),
among other things, on how big a market share you have - if yours is the
ONLY magazine that a certain demographic reads then you have greater
market power than another mag that they don't read with someone who
wants that demographic. If the people buying the advertising don't get
that then it's marketing's job to sort it out. If they are as amateurish
as you suggest then a dolly burd with big tits and a low cut top doing
personal visits may be the solution to selling your advertising space.

However no matter how amateurish they are it's not too hard to get even
the most clueless person to understand the concept of "my mag is read by
the exact same people who buy your stuff, none of the other mags are,
place ads with me and you'll reach people who buy your stuff"
I sit slightly corrected, Bear suggested it and you agreed.

Really ? I'm very surprised. I made the obviously erroneous assumption
that it would be equivalently larger than Oz in line with pop'n
difference, the two main motorcycle mags here (AMCN and Two Wheels) have
    monthly circ figures around 150K each IIRC(2), then there's 3 or 4
smaller players doing I think about a third of that (plus we get the UK
and US mags which must sell enough to warrant people stocking it - I
bought Performance Bikes the other month for the "old 2 strokes" comparo
    article).
Which just means I don't have enough data.

You're welcome to send an email, the header address is valid (bar the
obvious), to clue me in on the bits I don't get...

    1. Obviously the increase could be a number very close to zero
    2. I can get the exact figures but it involves digging through a stack
of magazines to find the last time they published the "league table"
(AMCN likes to boast about it as they're beating 2 Wheels)
