He did some bollocks which almost made Hardly Davidson sound like they
belonged in a magazine focusing on motorcycles. Never mentioned plough
attachments once ~ so you have to wonder about the research ;-)

I wouldn't mind that level of depreciation 'though.

If you wanted to cheer us up you could at least have included the figure for
    Classic Bikes.

I'll make you a small and purely theoretical wager that now Tim Thompson's
been given lead of Performance Bikes it goes steadily up the readership
league table. It used to be juvenile. Suddenly there's lot less tit pics,
fewer sad wanna be laddish bits and lots more content. Still it bit short
most of the bits but things like Olly Crick's restoration / revamp /
improvement of the Mk1 R1 are bloody good.

Whether it'll climb high enough to survive 'though .......

  3. I think it's about 55-60k. I'd have to check.
I would not take that bet. I agree utterly.
Trouble is that he might make it too like Bike, and EMAP don't want
that. It should cater for a different market.

Paul Corfield emerged from their own little world to say
    only 3-5?

Although, after recent events [1] it seems senior academics are as reliable
as senior managers in Dilbert world

[1] no research council funded PG place for me at Cardiff. There are other
options in academia but I might just have to <whispers> get a job.

Well, I've subscribed to RealClassic, buy BSH occasionally, and Bike once or
twice a year. I used to buy shitloads of mags, but I've somehow lost the
    will...

Why so ? I think it'd just change the advertising mix - more ads for
CBR125s and less for squillion quid racetrack homologation specials
from Italy ? What else do teenage boys buy - mobile ringtones, zit cream
? Geez, sack the marketing guy if he can't work that shit out.

Less competition for the motorcycle and accessories producer's
advertising dollar, yes, it could help. The survivors can charge the
ones who are going to advertise regardless more money (and hence makes
them more profitable), which gives them more bucks to do hire good
people and do a decent job.

    JL
(but it's more likely the survivors will just pocket the extra profit)

But isn't that the point ? Stop trying to satisfy everyone, and take a
niche you can satisfy ? Classic Bike does a decent job of looking after
elderly gents with a hankering for past glory days(1), but the rest try
to be all things to all people. If superbike has the spotty face brigade
sewn up then it should concentrate on its core business.
Err, umm OK, well I'll shut up now then.

    JL
Off to buy a clue, anyone spare me a quid ?
1 Which is most unfair, it's actually rather well written and with
    decent content

Sounds like one of my old school reports and they didn't have a clue
    either...

I would buy more mags, or even buy more of a particular mag if they had
more fun in it. I snipped the bit about the never ending 600 road tests
but that pretty much sums up how I feel about it too.

I sub to Bike and TWO but only Dan Walsh has interested me in Bike for
yonks and I'll be stopping the sub soon.

I'm a bit fed up with them always reviewing the same bikes month in
month out, or so it seems.

Do it soonest. I cancelled mine months ago and despite several phone calls
I still get a copy delivered each month.
True, they should occasionally do something on not so SOB's, as we can't all
    afford the latest exotica.

I buy occasionally, usually if I know I am going to be stuck
somewhere[1]. I get 3 non bike magazines delivered but only really
    read 2 of them[2].

[2] CSMA mag is only any good for the amusing letters.

I've read bike since before my 17th birthday - well, I've bought it.
It often goes in the bin only partly read nowadays.
I've got some old copies (mostly with GL1500/KH500 tests in).

The thing that gets me is how few (less?) road tests they used to have
in the olden days. :) Two or three bikes per month seem to be the
    norm.

A lot more articles about doing stuff/going somewhere on a bike,
rather than just thrashing the tappets off it.
