Might sound like a silly question to some but as I am about to land on your
    shores.

Can anybody tell me if a uk licence is transferable or do I have to take an
    australian test?

  2. You can use your UK licence in Australia (or almost anywhere in the
world) for up to 3 months as long as the categories on your licence
match the vehicles you will be driving/riding.

    Sure you do.

Good news is you automatically qualify in the whinging
and drinking criteria (given your nationality) so the rest
    will be a breeze.

    Mate,

    Here you'll be tested on:
    - balancing a stubby on the tank during emergency stops,
    - load balancing up to 5 cases on your bike,
    - cornering and braking without upsetting the cargo (see above),
    - booting roos up the arse and staying upright at speeds up to 110,
    - etc.

Also, you'll have to be prepared to ride all year around here on the
    'colony'.

    You're welcome. :)
    Cheers,

Bloody hell......pull up the drawbridge, Bruce.

Well it depends very slightly, on what your licence is, and which state
    you sneak into.

A full pommie licence, in NSW, gets transfered into a full NSW one, with
    only a "knowledge test".

The hint for the knowledge test is, read the book (can be done on-line)
and then don't think, remember! :)

If you have a small capacity bike licence, they may be more dificult....

Trikes, BMW's, GPX250's, and they write a lot about Ducatis but don't ride
    them.

In Queensland you will need to do a written test for transfer of car and
motorcycle licences. Commercial vehicles/ trucks require a pratical test.
