Bike licence first?

I got my motorcycle licence at about 17-and-6-weeks (which was about as
early as possible in Qld those days) but I didn't get my car licence until
    after I was 18.
Are there any others who got a bike licence first?

Yep...it was raining when I turned up for my test so the examiner sat in his
office & watched me perform his designated moves through the office window.
    Just a hill stop-start & a U-turn.

    Yup.

In the UK you used to be able to get a bike licence at 16, and a car
    licence at 17.

Dunno if this is true now.

  4. Yes me.

Joined the Army at 18, Vic licence age. Old man was too cheap to pay for
lessons, said the Army will give you a licence, take to it the cop shop and
get a civilian licence off it. I got my bike licence at 19 in Tas, but
didn't get an Army licence until I was 25. Took my Army licence and Qld bike
licence in to Oakey cop shop and got it endorsed for car and truck. He was
right but it took a while.

  7. Would I have to get a car license to be able to answer?

I do have my Car Learners Permit (when I got my full Bike License, I
qualified for everything needed for a car LP). Of course, I have an
issue that restricts my ability to get my full Car License. I have an
'E' restriction on it. Any cars out there with a 250CC engine?

    Not me. I didn't get a car licence till I was 20, couldn't afford a car
anyway. Then I bought a car and a bike in the same week. Got the bike
licence a couple of months later.

Well I'm certainly not Robinson Crusoe like I thought I'd be!

For me it was simply because I'd had to move 80km away from home when I
turned 16 to start my apprenticeship and I didn't have any friends there
with cars. I'd ridden a pushy everywhere until I was 17 so it wasn't much
effort to pass a bike test. (And I'd been sneaking around the streets for
the previous 6 months on the R5 Yammie 350 I'd bought off my brother)
When I was 18 I traded the Yammie on a Datsun 1600, taught myself how to
drive and then got my car licence in it.
6 months later I rolled the Datto and went back to bikes!

  15. " Sneaking around the streets " on an R5? Impossible. The only
speeding ticket I've ever had on a bike was on my brother's R5, and that
was stock. It had "wheelie" and "dawdle" as throttle settings, and only
    the first of those worked.

What did you go back to?

Got L's for both the day I turned 16 and 9 months. That's pretty much
the same as getting bike first 'cos you can ride by yourself on a bike
with L's but need someone to come with you in the car.

I started riding ~100k each way to school the next day...

Heh heh; mine had Bassani 'chambers that were a bit worn and would
occasionally backfire and launch a flaming/smoking baffle 30 metres across
an intersection! (Especially impressive after I tried to quieten it down
by packing the baffles with Chux super-wipes!)

You're right about wheelie/dawdle too. I remember bogging down in second
as I was going around a left-hand corner and I kicked it back to 1st and
then hung on as it launched skywards while still heeled over.
As soon as the front lifted it went straight and I ended up on the opposite
side of the road trying to put on an "I meant to do that" look!

    Funnily enough a Honda CB360.
It was given to me by my brother-in-law a week before I rolled the Datto
and it did absolutely sterling service for a year until I gathered some
finances and bought a Kwakka mach 111..... (I hadn't quite learned enough
    dawdle/wheelie from the R5 y' see!)

We couldn't ride alone on Ls in Qld. We had to either be followed by
someone who'd held a bike licence for a year (but they didn't have to be ON
a bike while following) or we had to double someone who'd had a bike
    licence TWO years.

I don't think I ever had ANYONE fit the bill so it was just a matter of
getting the learners then waiting the 6 weeks and trying my luck on the
licence test! (I passed the first time but then lost it and failed the
    next two attempts!)

Mine was only a few years ago now, well, 1997.

Did the L's course in Tassie the day I turned 16. Bike first, then car,
although it was reversed by the time P's came around (sat car P's test the
first day I could, 16 and 11 months; bike P's couple of days before my
birthday). Did more kays on the bike in the first year than the car -
commuted to school on it, which is basically the reason I decided to get my
road licence (started bombing around on a 60s era trail bike when I was 12,
    on and off road).

Dunno if it helped, but I never crashed a car. Well, there was this one time
I went into a gutter at 20km/h, but I was driving a manual with a broken
ankle (thanks to an accident involving the old boy's GSXR750, a new
Commodore, and a fucktard who didn't know to look before pulling out).
