    Hi All,

Just a warning about hiring bikes in France. My wife and I rented bikes
through Holiday Bikes in Nice, France for a week. On pick-up my Suzuki
Bandit had a near worn out rear tyre. Not really good enough for a weeks
riding through the Pyrenees. Whilst the riding was excellent. During our
hire we had the unfortunate occurrence for my wife's FZ600 to be knocked off
it's side stand. It cost us our entire deposit of 1600 Euros for scratched:
handle bar end weight, front brake lever, side of rear tail, right foot peg
and slightly bent rear brake. Whilst they where legally entitled to the
deposit. I felt it was blatant profiteering as I'm sure they would not fix
the damage and just rent it out to the next person, given the condition of
the Bandit when I got it.

    Beware!

Yeah and if you had bought some travel insurance, it would have paid
    your rental vehicle excess.

Tough shit. If you don't like paying for damage, you shouldn't have
damaged the bike in the first place.

He said it it was knocked off the stand while in their possession. See
    a primary
school teacher for English comprehension lessons if still in doubt. :)

Only few insurers include bikes under their rental vehicle excess cover.
Even if, they then often don't cover medicals resulting from a "high-risk"
activity like riding bikes/ abseiling/ etc etc
Just gone through the whole mess of reading policy-fineprint for a few weeks
    in preparation for a 6-week Euro-Alps ride.

  13. Hmm. Going by the current philosophy of equality of outcomes in
Australian schools, I'd say that he's near the top of his class...
