    ........or more specifically Snowdonia.

I'm thinking of breaking up the journey from the TT back to Devon with a
stopover in Wales. Anyone recommens a cheap (1), friendly hotel in the
national park? Also North Wales seems to have a good reputation for roads.
What do I need to head for?

    (1) around £40-£50 per ROOM.

    Thanks anyway.

It's only 19 miles though from Llandudno to Betws y coed (which is pretty
    much Snowdonia Central for bikes)

Me and my dad stayed in a reasonable B & B in Caernarfon last year on
our round Wales trip. Run by a couple of bikers with secure (albeit
outdoor) parking. I can dig out the details if you would like, it was in
the Pull out Bike or MCN did on touring last year.

Are there hotels out there that are 'bike-unfriendly', as in they'll turn
people away because they're on bikes? The only bike 'touring' I've done in
the UK has involved staying at mates' houses, so it had never occurred to me
to shop for hotels any differently to if I was in the car.

Not that I've ever found. A few pubs tend to be a bit anti biker though, but
I guess that happens all over the UK.

I can't think why. Most of the bikers I've ever met are fat affable
    piss-heads, ideal pub material.

All this 'biker' mystique is fucking bollocks. Since when did a method
of transport make you fucking hard.

In all my life I have never booked a hotel and been asked what mode of
    transport I prefer.

"Ah, sir likes riding cheap bikes, I gather?"

We're a similar age and I remember such times but society has changed.
I have a shaved head which is never a problem combined with a
motorcycle but the moment I put a football related shirt on people
    change their attitude completely.

I used to wear (still got it) a tatty old leather with a fur lining,
which some previous owner had presumably made out of a fur coat.
Whenever I went to apub with "No leather jackets" signs I used to just
    turn it inside out...

  17. Not quite the same, but the only time anything close to that happened to
me was a pub manageress asked us to take off our manky road-grimed
jackets next time we came in, else we might not be served. No problem,
we said. The fact was, we'd been sitting there unaware the bar seating
had recently been refitted and our clobber was causing some concern.

Quite amicable really and a valid point.

Nice ... I got asked similar once .. .and started to peel off the one piece
leathers ... the sight of the thermal underwear below soon altered the
    request funnily enough.
