  5. Ignoring the fact that that passage is about making the
punishment fit the crime do you really think
that something replaceable (like a bike) is equivalent in value
    to a human life?

    What strange priorities you have.

Human beings are more replaceable than motorcycles. In fact, human
beings are an infinite resource whereas motorcycles aren't.

Therefore motorcycles are worth more than human beings.

Never thought of that as a believe issue, just common sense.
And you will probably find that the same people would take
great objections if they would be treated the way they treat
    others.

  14. Have I brought religion into this? Has the phrase "sociological
norms" suddenly been changed to mean "religious norms"?

Have another cup of hot cocoa. You know you want to :)

    We know you too well.
That's what it's always meant. Historically, it's always been
religions that try to impose their values on everybody else.

If you open your eyes and see what people _really_ think, rather than
what you or anybody else would like them to think, you'll soon realise
    the truth of steve's point.

I find it difficult to separate the two as it happens. Especially given
that pretty much anything we do as a group tends to take on about it an
air of religious type ceremony and belief after a few generations. It
doesn't actually have to involve God to be treated as a religion in my
    book.

    Don't want cocoa.

I dunno. I reckon that the monotheistic ones have a great deal to
answer for about this but the multideity varieties seem a lot less
    evangelical to me.

  18. Assumtion is the mother of stupidity..
So Communism is a religion now eh? Or democracy? Both are rather good
at imposing their will on others. As is that other well-known
    religion called capitalism.
Ah but I do. The fact that I disagree with most of it
is irrelavent. *I* can see both sides of the argument..
