Does anyone know a decent bike electrician in the London area? My
Commando needs rewiring and though I bought a new loom I've just not
got the time to get it done. TIA!

  2. Google for Ferret.

Nah, don't worry, I've done it for you.

Spoke to him - good work but very pricey. Reckoned 12 hours work or
    thereabouts at 40 an hour...

Are you sure that this doesn't include making the loom as well?

If he doesn't make the loom all there is to do is connect it up. It's not a
problem to make your own loom but it's the most time consuming part of the
job. £480 ? At least Dick Turpin wore a mask :)

12 hours? JCS. I put a new loom into the Evil Twin in about 3.

But you've already got a new loom, don't you?

    I'm a bit confused...

Ferret says he only uses his own looms so he wouldn't quote for just
fitting the new loom I've already got. Fair enough, but if I can find
someone to do the job with the bits I've got...

I can relate to that, you can't beat making the loom to fit what you've got
in front of you, bought in ones are seldom right.

I can see why he'd say that as a lot of looms seem to be of, shall we
    say, rather variable quality.

That said, if you decide to have a go yourself let me know and I'll be
    happy to lend a hand...

Cheers! I appreciate what Ferret says and undoubtedly you get what
you pay for. That said, it's still quite a lot to pay...

I'll bear it in mind - time to get on with it is the real problem,
plus lack of any electrical ability..... The bike has aftermarket
electronic ignition on board, and though I've bought a loom designed
for this from Norvil, I just know it's not going to be a simple case
    of unplugging and replugging.....

OK, just let me know when you're ready - I'm fairly good with electrics.

I've rolled my sleeves up and got with with it. So far so good, just
got to sort the tangle around the junction between the main harness
and lighting harness, which I've also replaced and checked it worked
before I started on the main harness. Then went from the back of the
bike working forward and so far it's been a straight plug to play
    job. Fingers crossed....
