Bike deaths rising

Hmmm... sometimes. Istr a lot of HP deals would include the cost of kit
and the first year's insurance - which didn't really make any sense
financially, to be still paying off that first year for the next two or
    three years.

Ee, I remember my first year's insurance premium; actually it was around
three week's wages in real terms, since I'd just left school and was
    earning shit money.

My first year's insurance was £300, on a bike that cost £506 brand
    new.

As I was on £15 a week in a Saturday job, I didn't think it was *that*
    cheap.

    Bollocks. In 1983 I was 21, and I had a 2 year old GSX750 and an RD400
parked in the garage. I wasn't all that well paid either.

No it wasn't. As a %age of the cost of the bike, I think it was a lot
    more.

My first insurance (£55 IIRC) was about 20% of the bikes value.

Hm. Maybe it's just my imagination. Of course, I started a lot later in
life so never had to personally suffer the worst the insurance companies
    have to offer.

    I had my Z750 in 1982.

It cost £1100, second hand, from Mocheck Clapham.

£360 TPFT in London, or about 10% of my salary on insurance.

    Sensible didn't come into it.
