A 14% increase in motorcycle deaths is of concern but I wonder if there are
any other factors at play here? Anyone know if there was a significant
increase in the number of motorcyclists or the mileage collectively covered?

Big Tony bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the
    lines of:
And age, experience, type of two wheeler involved [1] etc, etc. It's
alrighjt bandying figures like that, but a breakdown would be good.

[1] As I'm betting that mopeds are included.

One aspect has to be cars...

There are more car drivers on the road (increasing each year), and if 10%
are crap drivers (guessing, could be as high as 90%), then we have a big
increase in crap drivers. We need to make the car test much more difficult
to pass, and re-test every few years. Perhaps incorporate the advanced test
somehow, and how many people drive/ride with uncorrected vision (perhaps
    without knowing)?

Of course there are loads of other factors, including us riders and bikes,
    etc.

To some extent I agree, I spent my 16th year on an AP50, learning (the hard
way) how to ride and progressed slowly up the cc's as I was always skint.

There's too much money around now (and things are cheaper) and people can
afford bigger things when they are younger.

I know I sound old, but does that mean I'm wrong?

Idiot. It's obviously either car drivers/other vehicle users. If it's not
them it's the power rangers. Or the DAS noobs or the BABs. Or it's diesel.
Coppers with radar- no gatsos, no: interfering civilians. Or hitmen waiting
behind the grassy knoll. Plague of frogs, death of the firstborn.

    It's all god's fault.

    TOG@toil, ,
but what's wrong with there being "too much money around" i.e. society
as a whole being wealthier. And what's wrong with things being
    cheaper?

Do motor insurance companies pay out when you get killed?

I actually fail to see why society should care if I kill myself on a
    bike.

What about the cleanup expenses of the women throwing themselves to their

My point was that in 1983 things were different. No aged 17-21 could afford
    large cc bikes.
