    Hello,
I'm in the market for a new bike cover. I've always used 'Kelpro' brand
ones as they fit the bike well and have lasted a reasonable amount of time
before cracking or blowing away. However my last one was made of a
different material quickly became brittle and started cracking.
It's hard to find a cover that fits well, my bike is a ZX-6R with a givi
rack so it's arse sticks up pretty high.
I was wondering if my cover failure was a one off thing or otherwise what
    would be a good alternative?
    Cheers,
    Duncan.

    Hello Duncan,

What do you call a reasonable amount of time, what weather conditions, etc.

I have a Rjays covering my bike that sits out the back of my unit copping
the afternoon sun....and all other weather. Bike only used as a social ride
so has spent a lot of time in the weather. Had cover since Nov. 2005 and
just showing signs of getting hard along the seat top, but still not cracking
up. Went for the lined "up market" one for about $70 from memory.

Cheap and not-so-nasty alternative is to go to your local whitegoods
seller and see if they have any of the plastic bags which large
refrigerators come packaged in. Get a knife and slice one side open and
slide it over the bike. Use a brick to hold the plastic to the ground
at the front of the bike to stop the wind blowing it away.

  4. Dunno what brand this one is, but it certainly looks unlikely to blow away;

I'd say the first few kelpro covers lasted about two years each before they
needed too much tape for the cracks or they blew away or got stolen. The
latest one didn't last a year before it leaked like a sieve.
    Thanks, I'll have a look.

well I have the Kelpro Pro Deluxe that has the inner lined . Have had it for
about 5 years and its still doing ok, I brought if for the BMW R1150R and it
had a Gibi plus saddle bags and it covered them without problems

But like you said it may be I had the old material....

  9. Hmmmm. A bike cover that looks more vulnerable than the bike itself.
    That makes sense.

And, Bob, just two dashes in your sig, mate. You'll be surprised at the
    difference.

And for info I live in Brisbane, about 150 metres from the waterfront, just
to give some idea of the climate/environment the bike is kept in.

  12. Indeed. Too much nostalgia and not enough configurability in the current
    software; all fixed now :)
