Bike choice...

  1. OK then, one fore the FOAK,

Later in the year circs may dictate a different bike. Will need to be
OK at motorway speeds (one-up) and be OK to do decent miles on without
    being too uncomfortable.

Must also be light weight and not more than 6 feet stem to stern. I
was thinking of something like an XT350. What does the team think?

XT350 at motorway speeds? rather you than me.

I'm guessing you want something cheap and functional? Half faired SV650
maybe, cheap as chips, yet usable and not extrememly sporty.

  8. Must be able to take being loaded on and off the front of a narrowboat
    - so up a narrow ramp and then down into the cratch. SV is too
    breakable.

  10. A possible, but the ability to be ridden across the odd field and/or
    towpath could be essential...

  13. <sigh> On this occasion the rules can be relaxed so you don't have to
    recommend what you are selling/riding.

Spooky - I had a IIA & XT350 at the same time! OK you'll still hate it,
but at least you'll understand it...

A DRZ400S would be a better bet if funds allow though, maybe a DR350 if
    they don't (but definitely not a DR400).

Ahh I see. DRz 400 then, I reckon, few more horses than the 350, for
    the distance work.

I suppose something contemporary with a narrowboat would be apposite.

With the added bonus that if you accidentally drop it in the canal, you
can think "Thank **** for that!", and leave it there.
