Bike->Car NCB?

I'm probably going to need to get some c*r insurance this week. Never
having had a car insured in my name, I'm somewhat lacking in the NCB
department, so it's going to cost a fortune.

Any recommendations for companies that will take into consideration my 8
years bike NCB, and/or being named driver on someone else's car policy
    with no claims?

hmmm.. are you technically not Claire's spouse (and vice versa of
course) cos if so can you not get the policy in her name as most
policies have something to do with including the spouse?

I am not sure on this I dont have such a thing, but I'm sure someone
    will know

I'll give 'em a ring anyway. I guess most companies will do something
like that, just to get the business.

Well, yes - the c*r that we have currently is insured in her name, with
me as a named driver (hence my comment about the insurance companies
taking into account the fact that I've been a named driver on someone
else's policy, and not had any claims).

But we're probably getting a second car, which we'd prefer to insure
separately, so that a claim against one insurance doesn't screw up the
    NCB for both.

Some underwriters (e.g. GAN, IIRC) are, or were, prepared to take the
broker's word for it that you've proved your NCB. I managed to persuade a
broker that I was an all-round good egg when I came off classic insurance[1]
and got a "real" car 3 years ago.

Ordinarily I wouldn't go anywhere near an insurance broker, but for those
cases where your circumstances are a bit complex, and being processed
through a website and then a script-led CSR monkey would leave you
    empty-handed, they're probably worth a try

Bikes rather than cars, but when I moved from CN's classic policy to
another broker, CN wrote a letter saying I hadn't claimed in X years
which the other broker accepted as an NCD certificate.

    Heh.

Neither of us have any claims or convictions that count, so neither of
us want the other mucking that up. It was a joint decision.

Until fairly recently I'd only ever had company cars, rental cars, or
been a named driver. Fortunately thus far my driving record is as
clean as a clean thing, no accidents, no points, nothing (and may it
stay that way!). When I bought my own car a couple of years ago I
discovered that after a bit of web searching and some ringing around
plenty of insurers were all too delighted to offer me perfectly
reasonable insurance terms, despite not having had a company car
within the previous two years - and amazingly the difference between
fully comp and TPFT was only £10. Now in the second year that I've had
to buy insurance (for the same car) my insurer (Admiral) has after
some haggling knocked 25% off of my insurance premium when compared to
the first year. So hopefully it's not all bad news even if they won't
    take the bike NCB.

ZK - what's bike insurance like these days? I've heard that it's gone
    sky high

CN now does car insurance as well as bikes (so its flyer informs me) -
    might be worth trying them?

Amazingly, nothing at all. It's still in his garage and I believe it to be
    working as well.

As, however, he's currently got a French car, an Italian bike and has been
inside enough AA vans to get invites to their staff parties he probably
thinks another car is a good idea.

Despite Aprilia's plans for ensuring reliability by adding redundant
components, the Flaco still possesses just two (2) wheels. This is
regarded by knowledgeable owners as something of a drawback in the
"transporting large quantities of stuff over reasonable distances in
    shite weather" department.

The potential prospect of imminent EKS status has revealed that the
transport department cannot supply the requisite number of four-wheeled
vehicles to meet anticipated demand, therefore purchase of an additional
four-wheeled vehicle has been authorised, subject to confirmation of EKS
    status.

In other words: I might be starting a contract soon, I'll need to travel
by car, and we haven't got a spare one, so we're probably buying another
    one. Got that?

Yes, but I thought you couldn't use a set of NCB on more than one
vehicle at a time, therefore you wouldn't be insuring the bike at the
    same time as the car.

This would mean that either a) you're going to sell it or b) it's dead.
Possibly even c) you're not going to ride it for a bit. I don't think
you're the kind of chap to risk d) riding without insurance.

  17. Direct Line will convert your company dirving NCB to your personal NCB.
They did this when my brother got rid of his company car...
