Bike brakes require more maintenance than car brakes?

  1. It seems that bike brakes require drain and bleed cycles far more often than
    cars. Why?

If you are basing this question upon the recommended maintenance
intervals you find in your owner's manual, that's because the
manufacturer doesn't know how much you actually ride your machine and
may believe that you ride it over bad roads in some mosquito-infested
wilderness and that you park the machine outdoors in a monsoon near a
beach that has frequent hurricanes or tsunamis.

Opps! That describes Florida, doesn't it?

So the brake fluid and lubrication intervals are shortened, compared to
the intervals actually needed in the kinder, gentler part of the world,
like around here, where the dairy cattle describe the sudden motions of
the ground under their feet as "Here comes the foot massage again!"

And you thought that commercial was made in Wisconsin...

Seriously, though, the manufacturer knows that motorcycles tend to be
neglected, and system reliability is imperative for rider survival, so
they recommend about four times as much maintenance as they really
need, and if the owner follows the recommended maintenance schedule
half as often as recommended, the machine is usually getting twice as
much maintenance as it really needs.
