Bigger locks, methinks

Got up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head, looking up I
    noticed...

.... persons unknown had tried to steal the Guzzi. The cover (which is
clipped into place) was gone and the bike itself was leaning against the
low wall that goes across the front of my place.

Obviously when they tried to push it away and the old faithful Abus U
lock stopped them; they abandoned their efforts. I've since found the
cover down the jitty that leads to some pretty rough housing.

However, it occurred to me that it would be a lot better with some form
of ground anchor. Cement-in isn't really an option and this is the
    location it'll have to go:

Where would be best to bolt it to? I'm considering low down on the wall
as I have no idea how deep the concrete strip is and think into tarmac
    wouldn't so good.

Any recommendations for reasonably priced anchors (as usual I'm a bit
    skint)?

I've got a similar problem; can't drill the wall and gravel patch.
I've considered digging a big hole a concreting in an anchor.

Or buy a great big black dog. Don't why black, it just sounds like it
    should be black.

Probably the wall is best - particularly in the summer, tarmac is
    pretty tearable.
I've got an Oxford (I think) "Sold Secure" (I'm sure about this bit)
that I bought and never got around to using - it's got captive bolts
    etc.

It cost about 50 quid, but you can have it in return for further bike
de-fucking, if you like (some assistence with the BMW would be
    great...)

Jeez you were lucky, you don't know how much. These days they
come in sufficient numbers to carry your pride & joy to a waiting
Tranny then remove the locks at their leisure. Chances are
they'll be back for another attempt within the next few weeks.
Don't surface mount to a wall or tarmac. Prises off in a second
with a crowbar. You really want some kind of alarm to wake you up
next time. You can rig something up for under a fiver, simple
wired close circuit. A PIR motion detector wouldn't cost much
    either.

As usual Ebay's the place to look. Wide range of different types
    to suit most situations.

I'm looking for one like that, preferably with one eye and part
of it's ear bitten off. Metal teeth would be good.

Why not? Unless you're renting I'd be inclined to hire a concrete
breaker (or borrow a pickaxe) and concrete an anchor in next to the
    wall.

The council may take a dim view of this and anyway I'm inherently lazy.

  8. Fuckers. At least they failed. I'd have been gutted if that was my bike
and it had been nicked - it's such a lovely machine.

    Mantraps and robo-sentry guns: YKIMS.

....and on that note I think I better look at Agreed Value insurance.
What, in your opinion, is that machine's value?

How much would an S3 cost me?

  10. It's such a bitsa it's hard to say - and the cosmetics are nothing
special. It's only when you look closer you see the work that's gone
into it, and the quality of the stuff on it. I'd say any Guzziphile
knowing their shit would pay £1600 for it; maybe a bit more.

Not as much as £2000, for sure, because there you're getting close to
    1000S territory.
What, an original 750cc one? Sheesh. Three grand, in really good
    original nick.

That's the problem with that bike, it bears very little relation to a
standard T3; it just wears the badges. Although I don't think the
cosmetics are that bad at all.

I'd guess, broken, the parts would yield far, far more than £1600 but
that's always the case. I better insure it as cost of replacement.

    Hmmm...

  12. They aren't bad - just, like I said, nothing special.
Indeed. Those brakes it wears, plus the engine tuning: all desirable
stuff. And the wire wheels as well.
Do an agreed value of £2500, then.

Thieving scum with taste, if it was covered in plastic it wouldn't have been

  17. Heh. I remember using an old CB500T as a ground anchor for my trailer.
I'm sure sweller can rustle up a dead MZ or three.
