Big weekend coming up

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Dr Ivan D. Reid, Jan 5, 2007.

  1. Anniversary: 37 years since I bought my first bike.

Milestone: 1,000,000 seti@home workunits crunched (and credited to UKRM).
(965 in the world at the moment; UKRM is 267th team and due to pass
    3,000,000 WUs within the week.)

I might have a drink to celebrate...

I hadn't realised there were that many Wicked Uncles.
I might have a drink to steady my nerves.

We have been quietly building a powerbase. We had not intended to go
public so soon, but as the Antipodean has split the beans, plans may
    have to be brought forward.

Old bugger. This year will see my 31st anniversary.
I've expressed my astonishment that so many intelligent people feel
the need to waste their (computers') time this way before, but tell me
this - how much of the sky has been covered so far? and how long will
seti continue before finally saying "**** it, maybe we're alone after
    all"?
    Naughty.

  12. ...of retiring from contemporary British culture?
I've no idea. I do it for bragging rights and the slight chance
that I might be the cruncher if we do get lucky. A bit like I buy Lotto
tickets on the off chance that I might win something.

    http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sci_status.html gives raw result
numbers, but nothing about coverage. I imagine they'll keep re-scanning
as the technology improves, so long as they can secure funding.

Thought about it, but much as it appeals to my enquiring mind I decide
to allocate my CPU ticking over time to the Folding Team. Seems more
potentially useful somehow. Perhaps I will set up SETI on the lad's box
    - that will appeal to him greatly.
