Big up the Maxton Suspension Posse

Last week I finally returned the Gixer's Maxton shock for a rebuild,
after it blew its guts over my rear tyre. Maxton phoned me today and
said they had rebuilt it. I protested as I'd expressly stated in the
covering letter that I wanted a quote before they did any work. They
said they ignored that bit because they weren't going to charge me a
    penny.

Apparently the remote resevoir above the spring had been fitted with a
badly machined part, which had fretted away at the resevoir and caused a
tiny fissure, from which the oil and gas had escaped under very high
pressure. That's why the whole of the rear of the bike was coated in
oil. They have totally rebuilt the whole shock with new internals and
resevoir, using only the spring and shock body from the original I sent
them. I should get it back tomorrow, after only a week away from me.

Bearing in mind this shock is of unknown age and history, I think that's
fucking good service. Richard at Maxton said, "We screwed up somewhere
when we made it, so it doesn't matter how old it is or how many miles it
has done, we can't have that out on road or track. I'm bloody glad you
kept the bike upright and weren't hurt, that could have been nasty"

Thanks Maxton, top chaps I say. Now to save for a hydraulic pre-load
    adjuster to be fitted.

  2. There are few companies left that honour their kit like that. Most just
    don't want to know.

Should I ever need an expensive shock, I'll bear them in mind.

I'm in the market for a better rear shock for my B12.
I think that they might just have sold me one doing that!

Fantastic service, and a fat B like me will be requiring a new shock
pretty soon. They are worth keeping in mind. A hell of a lot better than
the service from Shoei/Feridax, they couldnt give a shit imho.

I'm thinking of re-suspending the RS and that is one of the best adverts
    I've read.

    In
We use Maxton suspension on the BSB bikes [1], and it's brilliant, much
    better than the team!.

Says something when the race bikes, the mechanics bikes, and bikes that
belong to customers we like all use Maxton shocks.

    [2] Yes, I know we're crap.

    Pete M says...
I was very happy with the shock, but I'll admit I was disappointed when
it blew. I found it gave a lot of feedback on the road, and on the track
I just whacked 3 clicks on the low speed compression adjuster and off I
went. I never noticed what it did, it just worked nicely enough to
    forget that it was there.
