Best way to travel 5 miles to a train station?

  1. You're out by a factor of at least 100% on both those lifetime
    estimates.

  2. And ice cream. And biscuits - but not cakes[1]. If it's classed as
    confectionery, it carries VAT.

[1] Hence the famous Jaffa Cake vs Inland Revenue wrangle.

  3. Something to do with apostrophes, innit. The punctuation pedants have

    like they were saying :
The driving on the pavement is not a voluntary choice. It's a symptom of a
    previous cockup by a cretin.

Do you want to try to register one as a moped? They're nowhere NEAR meeting

I recently heard a claim on the radio that one in five cyclists say they
have been hit by passing cars, most usually being clipped by a door mirror.
Not surprising really, considering how many cyclists I see weaving among the
pedestrians on the pavements, probably to avoid being hit by car door
    mirrors.

    Gonzalez () gurgled happily, sounding
much like they were saying :
Yes, well, that's perfectly obviously a complete twat.
I don't see the problem with that.

There's plenty of pavement width available, no less than if the pickup
wasn't there, due to the street light.

It's not obvious if the pickup is parked there overnight, or if it's parked
there while the occupants are working somewhere, requiring equipment and
waste to be moved to/from the vehicle.
Look at the road. Look at the width of the road, and the density of the
housing. Where would you prefer the cars were parked?
Even if the van were totally on the road, it would be parked in a dangerous
location. Again, obviously a complete twat.
Like I said - not exactly a voluntary location... Besides, no proof the car
was *on* the pavement... Looks like it may have got there by travelling
    *above* it.

No, I haven't, because it is not false. "Cyclists" do not pay VED.
Motorists pay VED. *You* may pay VED, but you do not pay it as a cyclist,
you pay it as a motorist.
Correct. Nobody would say "Pedestrians pay VED", though. Or skateboarders.

Correct, I was pointing out where VAT doens't apply to ensure not everyone

It is a principle that has worked well for me over the past few decades.
100% success rate WRT pedestrians, cyclists and bikers, slightly less with
cars, but the other driver was reported for prosecution as a result of the
    non-injury accident.

Personally, I think it is far too easy to get a driving licence. Having a
tougher test, including re-testing existing drivers, aimed at removing the
poorer quality drivers from the road would improve road safety, reduce
congestion and lower pollution. It will, of course, never happen, because it
    is a guaranteed vote loser.

Perhaps you should take that up with the non-cyclists in this thread
complaining about cyclists riding on the pavement!

I do not ride on the pavement, magic white paint or not. Its much more
dangerous than riding in the road.

I did not steal half the pavement - the council did against the wishes
of most regular cyclists because their magic white paint is a cheap way
of them meeting the targets the Government has set them for cycling
    farcilities.

I've rarely held up a motorist for more than a few seconds and usually
it is them impeding my progress as they sit line astern blocking the
road because they won't use the Park and Ride the Council has
expensively constructed for them (bit like the cycling farcilities I guess).
I do not condone red light jumping by cyclists or any other road users.
    He was in the wrong.
However I don't think execution is yet the penalty for running a red light.

    mirror.

Then obviously the best plan is to make car door mirrors illegal. It's not
like car drivers use them or anything.

Getting colder.... You've just removed all the nurses, bus and tube
drivers, hotel, restaurant, theatre and shop workers from central
London. Guess that will save a lot of money building roads into London
too because no-one will find it worth going there anymore. Which is a
shame because London is about 17% of UK GDP so we'll lose a lot of tax
income for building all those roads. I guess the Red Cross and telethon
appeals in the US will look after all the displaced refugees created.
