Best way to get money back on wrecked bike?

    Hi guys,

I was in a motorcycle accident, and my motorbike is finished and I've
given up riding. Two years ago I bought the Honda SPADA for $3000, and
now there's a fair bit of damage so even if I wanted to, I think it
wouldn't be worth fixing. Now I'm not too sure on the best way to go
about getting some money back on it. I was wondering if you could
please help me with some ideas. I had two. One: perhaps fax a picture
of the bike to various wreckers and ask for a price. Two: dismantle
the bike down to individual pieces – keep what's good to sell
(wreckers or trading post) and discard what's bad. Like the engine
should still be good. The battery & back tyre are new. + sprocket and
    chain recent too.

    I'm located in Camberwell,
    Thankyou,
    Shane.K

Wreckers will buy it and haul it away, but won't pay much for it.

Parting it out means finding people who want it. You might want to try
selling the bits on ebay, but if you do then first look at the ads there
and work out which ones make you think "yes, if I needed that I'd buy
it" and which make you say "naaahh... not good enough".

You'll need to make decent pics, good descriptions, have an idea of
postage costs, and read a bunch of small ads and talk to some wreckers
to get any idea of what your starting price should be.

If that's too much work, then just offload it to the nearest wrecker for
    what they'll pay.

how much work would there be to make it rideable and roadworthy ??

was it decent with decent kays on it before the crash ?

if it is rideable and roadworthy despite it being scratched up then it is
worth something as it gets scratched when you throw it down the road

  4. They paid $500 for my wrecked Spada. The insurance company sent an
assesor out to have a look, he called back a week later saying "we'll
send you a cheque for $2800, if you call -this- guy on -this- number
he's agreed with us to pay you $500 if you call and arrange for him to
    come and collect it.

  6. Nah, not even that really, the new-ish battery got swiped to donate to
another friends Spada, I kept the toolkit (a surprisingly useful one,
tho maybe I'm only comparing that to the Monster), and it was running
the Monsters mirrors at the time which I took back off and put on the
Monster before the assessor came out...

It also had 2 bent forks, a dinged front rim, no headlight or
instruments, both clipons bent (in the process adding more to the pre
exiting tank dents), shagged chain and sprockets (I've still got the new
sprockets I'd been planning on fitting in the garage), shagged rear
tyre, it already had various dents, scratches and scuffmarks from many
previous drops (one by me, _many_ by people I'd lent it too), the tank
didn't sit straight on the frame anymore (probably the bit at the front
of the tank that clips under the frame, possibly a bent frame), and the
motor was making that "its time for a new camchain again" type of
    rattle...

I'd decided if it was only going to cost me 2 or 3 hundred bucks to keep
the wreck then I would, just for sentimental value - but it really was
only worth $3.50 and a kick in the nuts...

    big (I miss that bike...)
