    Subject says it all...

I'm a newbie living in Austin, and I have the gall to want the best
education on bike riding and safty before I go out and buy a bike.. So
far I have located 3 diffrent schools in the area but I'm curious if
any perticular location/teaching group is the "best", or if they are
all going to give me the same level of training and education.

    Thanks

Has anyone taken the Riders Edge course? I know its about 1/2 day more
riding time (6~7 hours in a class room and about 15 hours of bike time)
.. Is there anything in that extra time that is worth the extra $115.00
    ($295 vs $180)

    Thanks

  3. real good advice.

i don't recommend the harley course because they put newbies on the
500cc buell and it's not a forgiving motorcycle to learn on; lots of
torque and stiff clutch lever action can make them difficult for some
people. the 250cc bikes provided in the MSF courses are better suited
and more approachable for a newbie, imo. expect them to have cosmetic
dings and scratches, they are steadily destroyed by newbies every
weekend. the fact they run reliably is a testament to their durability
under the most ridiculous rider abuse imaginable.

the harley program has a higher student accident injury rate than other
comparable courses according to an article in MCN published about two
months ago. my brother in law took the course at a HD place when he
started 6 years ago and did not like it as much as the MSF course he
took later. my wife took the MSF beginner course last fall and loved
    it. as always, ymmv.
