Best motorway winter commuter for 3k

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Steve Bullimore, Aug 24, 2005.

  1. I'm going to start a new job soon which will involve a 65mile each way
commute on the jolly old M23, M25, M3. And Winter is coming. Dont think I
can face that on my gixxer 600 srad.

I want a bike that's fairly comfortable, has some decent weather protection
and is of reasonable size for the endless filtering along that dreaded M25
    section.

Decent bike options for around 3 grand?

    Late VFR750, Non-VTEC VFR800, Diversion 900 or ZZR1100 all spring to mind.

    Way too expensive.

    Try this:

    or this:

My K100's just clicked over the 100,000 mile mark. I've had it for 2.5
years and have done about 50k of that. In that time I've replaced the
normal things- brake pads, disks, battery and had one breakdown (broken
wire) and had the starter clutch fail.

My commute is a similar distance, 60 miles each way mostly motorway.
Fairing is fucking wonderful and keeps me dry even in moderately heavy
    rain.

    They're pretty solid motors.

I decent bandit 600 for about 1,500. Use the money that's left over to do
track days in Spain on your GSXR.

  11. Bandit 600s virtually dissolve in winter, though.

Mine didn't. Used and abused in all conditions, with a minimum of
maintenance. Must have just been lucky. Of course, it kind of
crumpled a bit when it hit the B-pillar of that Peugeot, 2 years ago
    this Saturday...
