Lozzo came up with the following;: I thought so too, but it's a dim memory from about 1976 to '80 ish ....
No, but I was bored. Well, I might not have put it quite as robustly myself, but we agree in the essentials.
German, dull. Italian slightly more inspiring. Japanese have just copied everything that was around, and to this day haven't come up with anything that hasn't been done before in one way or another.

Champ says... I so very nearly bought an XS750, purely on account of its size. In my defence I was 17 years old, had a freshly written out test pass certificate and shedload[1] of cash to waste. I bought an RD400 instead. [1] For 1979/17 year old values of shedloads.
The gobshite RT says... Oh, just like the companies that made up the British bike industry of the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. You must remember them, they failed to even make their copies of everything everyone else was making work properly, even after spending 50 years building and refining them. <cue polite youngster walking into 1960s bike shop> "Please mister, I wish to purchase a lovely British motorcycle" Shop owner thinks: "They never made a lovely British motorcycle, go away Sonny-Jim" But he says: "Yes young man, you can have this single cylinder 4-stroke machine that leaks oil, or this rattly twin cylinder machine that vibrates its exhausts off every 500 miles" Polite youngster: "Who is the single cylinder 2 wheeled road-hammer made by?" Shop owner: "Pick any one of four manufacturers, my boy. They're all the same" PY: "And the glorious twin cylinder machine, what maker's badge graces its finely sculpted from pig-iron fuel tank"? SO: "Any one badge you like, no-one will ever know nor care because it will fall off within a hundred yards and all bikes look the same to me"
Paul - xxx says... RD350A and B were only really good for 105mph. a good one would hit 110. Any RD400 would hit 110mph any day of the week, and there was bags more torque available. The 400 was also more reliable than the 350, partly due to having a heftier long stroke crank, but the same bore size, the 400 had better lubrication as well. Chassis-wise there was very little difference, just bodywork changes and a rear disc on cast wheel 400s. I've owned a few 350s and 29 400s, I know my RDs reasonably well now. In short, Borg's talking the usual bollocks.
well my RD400 must have been shit then couse the 350 was a lot nice engine. [1] But my 2 stroke bikes where limited. 3 RD 250s 1 350 1 400 a LC250 which was fun A GS 125[1] and a GT 250B, pre RAM air, which WAS faster than the later models. [1] Very probable as they where old used and abused by the time I had them [2] Not sure if that's right as it was the old mans really
In-line six motorcycle engines Flat six motorcycle engines And, let's not forget... Power valve system. Genuine innovation that moved two-stroke technology on. Unless you know somebody who invented it before Yamaha. That's just for starters.
The Older Gentleman says... Not in the same way. The 400 was rubber mounted all over, but the 250/350 were rubber mounted only at the front. That's why the 400 had the rubber joins in the exhausts, they cracked 250 pipes if they were fitted. I went the other way and stuck 400 pipes on a 250 because I had nowt else that would fit.
Lozzo came up with the following;: Heheheheh, well I only had one 350 maybe 3 400's and my brother had a 400. I 'moved' to Kawasaki though ... LOL
