Ok, my mate is 6'4" and just about to start out on the biking path,
trouble is he's got very long legs too and wants to ride a sportier
style bike, he dwarfs my R1, so any suggestions would be welcome. He
likes the sports styling and power, but wants to work his way up to a
more powerful bike - whats the best bike to start on?

Oh, and cheaper kit too, any thoughts on a budget way to get his kit?

You mean 125 or he's passed a test and wants a first 'proper' bike?

    That's a big big marketplace...

If he's passed then SuperDuke springs to mind... Mate has one and he says
is waaay more fun than his previous R1 and RSV-R (first version) and better
    for the more 'statuesque'....
NEC show? Dunno. What's his budget? I set an amount and buy within it.
    Works for me.

Buying budget just doesn't seem to work.

My mate (6'3") had the same problem so he got one of these, he loves it.

Must be a small statuesque type then, coz the SuperDuke fits me and I'm a
fucking short arse. They even fit my mate who's got one and he's an even
shorter arse than me, and with stuby little legs too. I reckon anyone bigger
than 5'10" would dwarf one and make the rider look like a complete tool.

    Short arse.
I fit without too much issue on a B6.

I've seen some people my size on a Sprint ST.

I've seen plenty of all people on R1's but you could get him to try a`RSV.

The funniest thing I've seen was Big Tony on a CB500. He made it look like a
    minibike.

  9. I'm 6ft (with long legs) and the only sportsbike that I was ever
comfortable on (and able to ride for 8-10 hours a day) was the Honda
    Fireblade.

As Verds says - it's almost entirely personal. Some people bend in ways
that suit one bike, some in others.

Indeed. At 6'2" I found the K1-K4 Gixxer thous perfectly comfortable
    for use as a sports-tourer.

He's about my height (6' and a teeny bit). He doesn't look too silly on it
in my view, but then I ride an NS400/500 and that's almost pocketbike sized
compared to my Daytona, so I'm not really able to pronounce on whether
someone looks like a tool on a bike which may appear too small..

Plus, of course, the comment was based in relation to his previous bikes -
i.e. the SuperDuke is "better" than an R1/RSV-R for his size, not
    necessarily the "best".

About to do his DAS once has kit.
    Hmm, don't we know!
    Good thinking...
Again, a good plan, I'll be there anyway, so can get him down there to
    browse around.

Yea but thats not really what he wants though.
Will get him out on a few bikes once he's go the test behind him I
    think. Cheers.

Hehe, hmmm, I did think of that but he really is a big guy. But he's
local so we may pop over when I'm there in a few weeks. Will give you
    a shout.

Yep Alex is the same, 35" inside leg measurement, so both bike & kit
    are gonna an issue.
I looked at a ZX12R in Frasers recently amnd thought that may be a good
    way to go.
I do believe there is an older CBR600 around local to him so we'll have
a potter over and have a look I think.
Well he'll be down this way again soon so we may pop down to have a sit
on a few bikes. And yea, NEC is a good idea.

    Cheers

True, and you have long legs iirc, so I think I'll just have to drag
him around the NEC, he can see what he likes and try on some kit too.

I'm 6'3" and as you know I was fine on my SV, GSXR750 and K1 GSXR1000.

Older sports bikes (circa 2000) would be my bet as they're slightly
    roomier than the current crop.

34" inside leg, so not excessively so.

Aye, be the best bet. Or else just pop round a few local dealers and
sit on everything they've got. Of course, there's going to be a huge
difference between how comfortable a bike feels while stationary
compared with actually riding it, but it'll give him a vague idea, if
    nothing else.
I dunno. Both the blade and R1 from that era felt, to me, considerably
more cramped than the gixxer, and I doubt if either were more roomy
    than their current versions.

I had a 1998 Blade and a 2000R1, you're right, they are both smaller than
    the gixxer.
